FFmpeg doesn't deserve to be such a tiny block. Nothing else comes close to matching its stability and simplicity. There's a reason it's practically part of the foundation for all media software out there.

I like how this implies Twitter storage is encoded in YouTube videos which are really just hosted on PornHub.

Create a FUSE library to use that as backing storage for a filesystem, and you can make use of the infrastructure for free cloud storage. Maybe twityouhubfs.

It's Pornhub, like https://pornhub.com/. One of the biggest (if not the biggest) porn site on the planet, used by millions if not billions. There is nothing wrong with watching porn if you feel like it. What you do in your own home is your own business. Just don't wank too much, or you are going to have health issues. Which are also totally normal and you should just go talk to your doctor, they will not be surprised or shocked, it is literally their job to deal with stuff like that.

It can also cause blood vessels to rupture under the skin, which is usually not a big issue and will heal. But it can cause some pain and leave a mark when healed and will only heal when it is given time to rest up, which can be hard if one is used to a lot of masturbation. If it isn't allowed to heal, it can cause more problems. I'm sure there can be more issues, but I don't know about those.
  A lot of the risks of masturbation are myths or exaggerated a lot. Wanking once or twice a day is probably fine. And your body will let you know when you've overdone it.

maybe I'm missing out because I don't watch content on pornhub, but how good does a video player need to be? it's a video player, seems like a solved problem to me.

  can change volume and resolution
  can be judged by community with a non-karma system
  little to no algorithm or AI slop
  can custom select videos (by date, popularity, tags, or whatever)
  peer to peer, decentralised and FOSS
  privacy friendly
  can download, usable offline
  none of that copyright bullshit
  In short, a no-nonsense normal video player without a profit motive.
- Iirc PH was first with the thumbnail pop up when hovering over the timeline. They also had the "waveform" thing of where users watched the most. Sure a video player is just a video player. But all the extra features like changing quality, playback speed, buffering tech, subtitles, and so much more really add up to a better experience.
- Decent buffering, decent scrubbing with thumbnail preview, double tap to skip 10 sec forward or back, proper fullscreen on desktop, and orientation on mobile. That's just to cite the very least. Imagine how good the YouTube player is, and how smoothly it works 90% of the time. Pornhub works that smoothly 100% of the time, with 90% of the features.

They either do use it or a heavily modified fork to fit their usecase.

Why don't they change the licence of FFMpeg to GPL so that everything uses it is open source? It'd be a win-win.

Then all these companies just wouldn't use it and would use something worse instead. Everything will be inferior and ffmpeg becomes less prominent and loses out on contributors and donations. It's a lose-lose.
Reality is complicated, GPL is awesome for a lot of things but in some cases it can hinder adoption.

Does anyone stream directly from ffmpeg? I have a 24/7 music stream with a static background image and playlist, running headless off a raspberry pi, and I'd love to see what other people have come up with to expand the idea

I did a few times just to test it out on peertube, i wrote a script to broadcast all videos in a given folder in random order. I would like to eventually have something going 24/7 but i havent gotten to setting that up yet
