if you've had or have anger issues, how did you become a better human?
  • Oh, by non stimulant you mean not dopamine reuptake inhibitors. I'm not sure but technically norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors can be called stimulant though.

Edit: I've never been on a NRI before, I think I should bring that up next time. I've not had anger issue with/without any medication either.

  • Since bits are ones and zeroes, and also mean true/false and on/off by extension, doesn't that mean all solutions to IT problems are just turning something off and on again at some level?
  • No reason, few decades ago oven used to work just as well as they do today with knobs, thermostats and spring timers.

That's why I said good question.

The oven I mentioned isn't this smart but there exist ovens like

COOKING MADE SMARTER WITH WIFI POWERED BY SMART HQ: Voice-enabled cooking allows you to turn microwave on and off, add time or change power level via Alexa or Google Assistant; Scan-To-Cook Technology saves time and optimizes frozen food preparation

  • What the US PornHub ‘ban’ is really about
  • There's no reliable way to verify age without extensive face verification with liveliness checks. A child can easily upload a parent's or some other adult's id card photo to get 'verified'. Also nothing stops kids to explore porn corners of social media (including lemmy) and thousands of porn sites operated not by the Big Porn. Porn is fundamental to internet.

Edit: I purposefully omitted vpn, that being the most trivial solution.

That's all besides the point however.

If a young kid is motivated by highschool seniors to watch porn, it is s parenting issue. If some adult encourages some child to watch porn as a grooming technique that's a much more serious case of child abuse. If a teenager is porn addict and doesn't do anything else, it is a major mental health concern, not a porn concern itself.

It is kind of accepted fact that many late teenagers are familiar with porn and explore it like any other sexual aspects of their life. Whether that's harmful is upto debate but teenagers/adults do many things harmful everyday and banning everything with law isn't realistic either. It is not end of the world if a teenager has sex or watches a porn movie. Children have greater dangers in general where they get abused by their relatives, teachers and even by their own parents and are continuously attempted to be programmed not to critically think by the religions.

  • Do you have any tips or tricks to fall asleep?
  • I feel you bro/sis, except the glass part. I woke up over a phone or a laptop to discover what random things my body did. Once I was debugging a crashing function and waking up I saw the offending test passed. It took a while to discover that the 'miracle' was my asleep body deleting some other code somewhere in the callchain ;)

  • I've an oven which when turned off in hot state while in convection mode will turn on the fans for few minutes next time I turn it on, regardless of mode and temperature. To overcome this bug I need to put mains power off for couple of minutes and let the caps keeping the ram alive drain. Not only it has hot state reset bug but also a ram initialization issue as well it seems. Thankfully that state is not stored in nvram.

The manufacturer was as expected: 'we're not software guy, we can send an 'expert' engineer (who knows only to replace parts, no debugging) and it'll cost $$'. I thought I'll reverse it and fixing someday, till then I'll live with it.

  • Good guy clippy
  • Any tech college kid can write an app in common frameworks. I'll admit llm code generators are great when they can translate electron apps to say tauri or even better to QT at reasonable cost :)

  • What's your thought on AI generated content?

First and foremost, this is not about AI/ML research, only about usage in generating content that you would potentially consume.

I personally won't mind automated content if/when that reach current human generated content quality. Some of them probably even achievable not in very distant future, such as narrating audiobook (though it is nowhere near human quality right now). Or partially automating music/graphics (using gen AI) which we kind of accepted now. We don't complain about low effort minimal or AI generated thumbnail or stock photo, we usually do not care about artistic value of these either. But I'm highly skeptical that something of creative or insightful nature could be produced anytime soon and we have already developed good filter of slops in our brain just by dwelling on the 'net.

So what do you guys think?

Edit: Originally I made this question thinking only about quality aspect, but many responses do consider the ethical side as well. Cool :).

We had the derivative work model of many to one intellectual works (such as a DJ playing a collection of musics by other artists) that had a practical credit and compensation mechanism. With gen AI trained on unethically (and often illegally) sourced data we don't know what produce what and there's no practical way to credit or compensate the original authors.

So maybe reframe the question by saying if it is used non commercially or via some fair use mechanism, would you still reject content regardless of quality because it is AI generated? Or where is the boundary for that?
