I'm going to try to be very calm right now and not fly off the handle. I'm going to admit that I made a mistake in not immediately asking you to disengage when you called me an American because I care about America. It made me really uncomfortable, and your national isolationist fantasy reminded me of how my friend was affected even though she lives here in Australia. I should have explained that I wanted you to go away, but instead I tried to ask you to have empathy for me, my dead friend, and my loved ones, and that was a mistake. I thought when you said you would disengage that you were telling the truth, and I got overeager to have this horrible pair of conversations done with, and then I replied in this other conversation because you started two arguments with me at the same time for some reason. And I thought I made it clear I wanted you to go away. But maybe I didn't, and maybe you're not harassing me right now when I'm grieving my trans friend, I don't know. I'm confused and angry and sad. So I'm going to be clear now and say PLEASE GO AWAY I DON'T WANT YOU TO TALK TO ME ANYMORE

I'm the one that gets to decide whether *I* would have anything to do with you or not. That isn't a promise, it's not a lie. Edit: I've seen this behaviour from you before, where you will continue to engage, trying to "win" arguments by being the last to reply, and trying to force others to be the "bad guy" by saying they are harassing you rather than just disengaging.

If it was that your friend took her life because of what is happening in the US right now though, then can you see how arguing that everyone should engage with US politics despite the effect on their mental health is not helpful? Seriously. I'm getting really sick of OPs take, it is a fundamentally flawed and ignorant understanding of what privacy and anonymity are. If I'm at work and I need to speak to someone in private, we can go in a room and close the door. That's a PRIVATE conversation. It doesn't mean that nobody heard me say "hey Bob, can I talk to you for a minute?" It doesn't mean nobody saw us go in there and shut the door. The conversation is still private. It's NOT private if someone is listening up against the door, or if there's a recording device in the room (in our analogy most messenger services and protocols fit here). Signal IS PRIVATE CONVERSATION. But there's metadata about who is talking to whom, and it's NOT anonymous for the reasons OP pointed out, even if OP is a rabble rousing idiot. Signal is private, free, accessible, and has a good feature set. Their foundation is a nonprofit with ethical motives, and it's widely adopted worldwide because it fills a very real, very necessary niche. Signal is NOT anonymous. If you want to be anonymous online you've got a lot, possibly an insurmountable amount, of work to do. Signal should not be a part of that because it's NOT anonymous. Quit strawmanning a good thing because it's not what you're looking for.
