Make the static dataset available on IPFS and you'll have node operators pin it on their instance. Good luck taking that down.

To be fair, Steam/Valve shouldn't be the one that judge the quality of the game, it should be the customers by voting with their wallets.

The part that worries me is what happens when the glasses batteries are empty. Do they get fall back to "long-distance / myopia" mode so that you can still see at at distance and able to drive?

I love tinkering with gadgets, but sometimes the manufacturers of these tech-based version forget to cover the basics before enhancing it with tech.

A good example are smartwatches. They can be filled with sensors, but they need to at least do one thing well, and that is to show time reliably.

It's like signing a contract, you have only yourself to blame if the contract sucks but didn't read it before putting your signature on it.

Personally I just hoard the giveaway games.

We are seeing more and more Lemmy.ca users being banned for speaking out

Do you mind pointing out specific cases where a ban was unjustified? When I look at the modlog (which is accessible to everyone) I only see one recent ban that could be related by one of our admins, and the reason was "inciting violence". We can review further if it was a mistake.

If there were bans by other admins or moderators in other communities outside of lemmy.ca, it's not in our jurisdiction so you'd have to take it with the mods of these communities or admins of these instances.

When citizens are accused of a crime, they are given the presumption of innocence as afforded by due process. When there is an incident involving law enforcement, politicians and activists immediately condemn those involved and are scrambling for sound bites.

Law enforcement officers wield a significant amount of power over civilians, and should be held to a higher level of standard and scrutiny. You know, with great powers comes great responsibilities.

Maybe one reason why there is systematic condemnation when a law enforcement official is involved in a crime is because the population is increasingly mistrustful because of incompetent officers that tarnishes your profession by acting recklessly and with apparent impunity?

An important aspect of policing is to defuse and deescalate situations when possible, not make a bad situation worse. This communication does none of that. If you want to regain trust, be the better person and use this tragic event to improve, not double down.

It will inevitably focus more on pleasing its public investors than anything else, therefore enshittification.

Maybe Steam/Valve is a unicorn, but it's not publicly traded and it's doing just fine.
