That's a great point. I honestly like the trans flag very much and I'm probably going to use it and wear it since it's cute and will make other people feel comfortable but will probably use the label strategically to avoid confusion with others thinking I'm a different kind of trans than I actually am. It seems my fear of being seen as appropriating is probably overthought as well.

That makes sense probably should lead with saying I'm AFAB and Nonbinary, then say I'm trans so no one gets the wrong idea. People thinking I'm appropriating probably isn't a real issue, it's probably just something my autistic brain made up because I overthink things way too much and also am afraid of pissing people off.

I've definitely had this experience before. Why are people such jerks, if someone asks the rules because they aren't sure or it isn't clear just tell them the rules. It makes it feel so unwelcoming when people refuse to tell you the rules and expect you to read minds.
