I'm really confused as to why 'Russians' are generalized as the last domino here
Like, could have easily been 'Putin', but even then are we content with stopping at removing despots? Let's at least aim a bit higher, maybe 'oligarchy', or even 'capital owners' if we're being ambitious.
Yeah. I've no problem with the Russian civilians as an American. But I do have a problem with Putin as he seems intent to make himself everyone's problem just like our wannabe dictators.
Fuck Tesla. Fuck Elon. Fuck Trump. Fuck corpo pigs
Right now Canadians and Europeans are wondering “How do we stop America”. And, as an American, I’m certainly not going to obsess over splitting hairs there.
I don’t think there’s any kind of international aggression these days where it should be implied we’d “go after the civilian population”. Sadly, Israel disagrees.
man. i dont think any of this would be happening if people weren't fucking lazy and just voted in November. like god damn who cares if the line is long for one night.
People don't know how to participate in a democracy, it's ridiculous.
If millions upon millions of people in your country want to vote far right, you're not going to get Bernie, you have to compromise. You pick the one that has the most likelihood of pulling your country in the direction you want, because the alternative is that you don't get anything at all. You can't be entitled, because you have to share your country with 350 million other people. Fucking compromise or get fascism.
There are numerous ideological and philosophical frameworks that attempt to explain how fascism takes rise, so why do you just blame it on laziness?
Did Hitler come to power because of German industrialization, German embarrassment from WWI, the great depression, and other global economic hardships, or did Hitler come to power simply because Germans were lazy and didn't vote?
Our turn towards fascism was inevitable, and it can be explained better than with some nebulous concept of "laziness".
At the very minimum, start asking yourself why Americans are not enthusiastic about voting.
Lots of things can give rise to fascism, but when people stay at home they give it a free pass to take control. We had the easiest chance of hitting the brakes.
Voting is EASY.
All we had to do was vote. If trump doesn’t leave then it’s going to cost lives to change. Damn fool to think otherwise.
That happens every single election. How about, instead of attacking people who are rightfully unconvinced this system works, you attack the people actually doing the fascism.
You’re like a fuckin’ Russian bot, only helping to divide. Fuckin’ dumbass democrats, man. This is why you lose.
I think, not voting, is the wrong way of expressing not being convinced of the system.
I think the better approach would be vote, but try to spread the word why you’re inconvenienced, try to force government to be more transparent, sue politicians that do corrupt stuff, organise demonstrations and strike with precise demands like improve transparency of politics, found only trustworthy journalism, fact check anything and add sources to information/misinformation, track sources truthness not by 0 and 1 but between 0% and 100%, teach empathy to anybody, make music, talk to many people
But i am lucky, as my people before me have done that already, well, still hard job to maintain…
Of course this is true but when youre in a conflict you dont have the luxury of making distictions.
This is like Americans reminding us 'not all Americans are like this'. Its like, yeah bro we know but your country is actively threatening ours, so tough.
Not saying every Russian is bad, and they're obviously victims of lies and propaganda... But still. Don't they overwhelmingly support the invasion of Ukraine? That's like if most Americans were fine with us violently murdering, raping, and torturing our bloody way through Canada (please let this not happen)...
I mean there are a massive amount of people in America in complete support of the genocide in Gaza. But I guess the analogy doesn't work for Americans because the children dying are brown.
Which foreigners are we gonna decide is the reason the US isn't a democracy to hide the fact the state is owned by the ruling class next? I vote for going back to the Japanese
I understand all the hate against billionares and political elite, but what's up with hating russians, including civilians? Especially these days, when russian citizen equals to bloody war, poverty and censorship.
Because it's always been like that. An enemy image unites, and allows for political agendas which wouldn't be possible otherwise. China and Taiwan? Israel and Gaza? The middle east? Jugoslawia? Kosovo and Albania? The soviets, Hitler, the OG fascist Mussolini, and even they weren't the first ones.
Having an enemy helps unite people against them, and as long as the image of the enemy being present and being a danger is fed, inner conflicts matter way less, since the "danger" is the enemy.
For America it's an especially interesting case:
America spends ~900 billion dollars on military, which is as much as the next most spending 9 countries combined. Source. Fuck knows if that's super accurate, it's a fuckton. America's main export good is war, so any enemy is a good enemy, and any war is a good war. Suddenly, the 66.5 billion spent on Ukraine since 2022 aren't that much anymore.
The "commies" and the "reds" are an historic enemy, and have been for a significant time of America's existence. America has existed for 249 years this year. The soviet union existed for 69 years, counting in the Russian Republic right before its 74 years. Right before that was the Russian empire, which existed for 196 years. The Russians, in some form, have been an enemy since basically forever.
A comparatively extremely dumb population on average at least in regard to the non-american world, in addition to intolerance of the "non-american way" of doing things and disinterest in other cultures.
And since the average American already is used in thinking black and white with glorious freedom of two-party pseudo democracy, it's even easier to get the enemy image going.
For some variance, China can be used sometimes too.
And before I get called a Russian bot, fuck Putin, fuck Trump, fuck Musk, and many other political figures having blood of many people on their hands.
Great analysis. It's a shame these days one can elaborate the most reasonable argumentation and still will be straight hated if not including literally 'fuck Putin'.
No, a lot of people hate on the Russian government. I will say that the comic should say Russia instead of Russians to clarify that, unless the author themself is incorrect/misled.
Russia is the one who has been supporting Trump through their bot network in various social medias. We're basically fighting an information war, and yet we basically won't acknowledge it so we lose.
The hate to Russia is somewhat misplaced, Putinism is more or less a by product of America. It will be less a problem once Americans stop hate themselves.
