The fuck guys…you’ll try everything but actually fixing the problem.
Many of us are trying to leave as quickly as possible. You can't fix a society of deeply fucking stupid as this one has become.
Lol wasn't that like a I did a thing video?
Fucking hilarious quote here:
"It's a bit like that movie The Matrix, where the agent can jump into the nearest person and immediately be good to go. We're a little bit like that—but we're the good guys," he added.
Oh yeah so it's kinda like the terrifying dystopian surveillance nightmare where people are oppressed at all times by an omnipresent, invincible, untouchable outer force that compels them to unquestionably follow the path laid out for them in life by their masters. But like, in a good way!
What actually happens to people who's body is taken by the agent in the matrix? They can't be not dead, right? This makes it even better.
It’s funny how much they do just to circumvent gun control.
Yeah, let's push for gun control as the fascists are taking over! Wonderful idea!
Some of these jackasses are so brainwashed they're still worried about the thing the masters told them to worry about for decades.
the drones were equipped with pepper rounds plus a glass breaker
That's still terrible to be at a school but I bet it would be a hell of a lot of fun to play around with. Like aerial battle bots.
How is there not a drone version of battle bots yet
Aerial combat vehicles don't take hit that well.
I was always terrified of Robocop when I was a kid. What a strange world we live in..
Next headline reads "armed drones were hacked and lead to worst systematic school shooting in history"
Yay! Bullied tech nerds no longer have to bring their own gun! That's convenient for them.
The measurement unit is what got me
You know how most school shootings can be stopped in the US? Safe storage laws. Most of the time the shooter is an underage kid who got access to their parents' guns and went to shoot up the school. Obviously it wouldn't stop shit like Uvalde and Sandy Hook. But it would still stop a fuckload of smaller shootings we don't hear about because they are background noise at this point.
Safe storage laws, licenses and responsibility for anything that happens with your gun. No public carry laws. Removal of gun owning rights for people that commit violent or drug related crime. These are like the bare minimum needed to have a society with guns.
Police vists for people acting unhinged online and check they dont have any illegal weapons. Different classes of licenses with increased scruity.
Next mass shooting headline: Bullied nerd hacks armed drones in school to extract bloody revenge.
I feel like someone is going to hack one of these and then do a school shooting
You bet your ass. You think with Big Balls storing millions of people's data on unsecure servers and Las Vegas being slammed with a hack that would make Hollywood claim is unrealistic means there will be script kiddies ready with pre-made hacks that would make them kill people. This is cyberpunk 2077 level shit.
WFH
Someone will absolutely take this as a challenge.
I bet my ass those drones will have more backdors and vulnerabilities than a public square camera. This shit will be hacked by a kid with kali linux and a hoodie in no time.
I meant some idiot would provoke them with a gun and try to shoot them down, but indeed their security will be absolute shit.
America, just throw more guns at the problem!
Too many guns leads to weekly school shootings.
US: We need more guns!
I get more and more grateful to be born in Europe. The US is a real life satire fever dream at this point.
Hacks drone, oops. Let's stick with metal detectors and guards
it's like the Onion. it's really like the Onion. some of these you go, "hah ! could be the onion !" but this one, it really ought to be the Onion
As always, the American answer is more guns!
It is funny how americans think that more guns will prevent gun violence. Then again, they think that more pills will prevent drug problem.
next year
armed drone hacked by deranged lunatic kills 50 kids and 10 teachers
You can now do school shootings from the comfort of your own home. . . That's progress!
Kids just need to be more inventive, guns are so passé but bombs are the bomb.
aaaaand you're on a list.
These things are going to get hacked and start shooting kids. Wtf are these idiots thinking.
Probably "this is a completely untapped market for our killbots!"
anything but do something about the guns. SMH
This is such a tricky subject.
You could go with a more strict gun regulations. Coupled with more help for vulnerable people. And free mental healthcare.
Or.
MUTHERFUDGING DRONES, bitches.
It's such a tricky subject. So tricky.
This isn't tik tok you can say Motherfucking.
In fact I'd prefer if people just used the actual cuss words. Self-censoring is such a bullshit. Social media is a plague on our species.
man I made an account just to go troll idiots and holy shit is their moderation ever so fucking bad
people can say "I would drive over them" about people crossing a bridge, but if you say, "I'd drive over you tbh", nope, not okay.
not to mention the dumb automatic word filters regardless of context
do we have to have this same argument every godsdamned thread?
Ploppers
but which of those options will make more money for the people in charge?
Are the drones flown by AI? ...looks like there's even more money to be made!
🤢
You could go with a more strict gun regulations. Coupled with more help for vulnerable people. And free mental healthcare.
I'm skeptical any of this would be more than a bandaid solution, a large part of the problem has got to be how highschool in the US is just inherently a miserably dehumanizing experience.
The drones, stored in secure boxes on campus, can be deployed within five seconds of silent panic buttons being activated. The devices—operated remotely by a team in Texas—provide constant live video feeds to first responders and, in some cases, fire nonlethal projectiles to delay or incapacitate an assailant.
To me, these aren't a bad idea. Immediate response and non-ISH-lethal. They are simply the progression of enforcement technology.
What they are not, is a solution to school shootings. They are not even a bandaid. Some people (law makers) just don't seem to know what "prevention" means.
You said
To me, these aren’t a bad idea.
and yet you also said
The devices—operated remotely by a team in Texas
in the very same post.
I wouldn't want some bored trigger happy gun nutjob from Texas playing shoot the bad guys with pepper spray on a games console where my kids and their multi ethnic friends are the NPCs.
nonlethalless lethal
Understandable, common typo in MY GUNS! land.
stored in secure boxes on campus, can be deployed within five seconds of silent panic buttons being activated
So much about that sentence doesn't make sense though...
"secure boxes" but "a button can open them" also "silent panic" with "drones out within 5 seconds"
In any event, the 'nonlethal' is generally considered a bad descriptor versus 'less than lethal', unless they are talking about something merely mildly annoying rather than the usual things like rubber or bag rounds.
Didn't expect to see a Robocop meme today, but I'm all about it!
I am an OCP stockholder.
Hail Hydra?
"to stop mass shooters"
hey that guy is posting marx quotes on his facebook! he's a future mass shooter! get his ass!
Honestly there are aspects about this that I like. In the vein of bomb defusal robots being obviously good. But with, you know, current politics and our chronic issues, it just feels sinister.
Make it make sense. "OH. What's that? You have pneumonia? Here's a bit of cough medicine!" Like brother... that doesn't fucking help shit....
America will do literally anything to ignore gun control and mental health.
I'm not surprised. The only thing we're good at in this country is making weapons.
That's a bald faced lie. We're also good at producing food with a lot of calories and no nutritional value.
How long before one of these shoots a regular kid?
I give it two weeks.
Article says there's a pepper ball launcher and a glass hammer, so this thing is mainly for surveillance and mild distractions, which is much better than I was prepared to read.
"Currently, an officer's job is to run toward gunfire, alone, with no support or intel—basically a standoff. With our drones, they're not alone; they know what the suspect looks like, what they're doing, and we take point around every corner.
"We usually find the shooter before they do and keep them occupied. Every officer who's seen this live has said they want it."
If this actually encourages them to do their jobs, great. If this is just a kickback to private industry and further militarizing schools while police still sit cowering, than I know where they can dock those drones...
"Currently, an officer's job is to run toward gunfire, alone, with no support or Intel"
That's a lie, they don't run toward gunfire at all. And they'll wait until they have at least three departments of officers before doing anything.
If they want to break glass as a distraction they can do that already, they don't need a drone. And their plan to break glass will startle an already on edge and unstable shooter, instead of using tactics to de-esecalate the situation. Also, isn't this what swat is for? They have no qualms about flashbanging babies in cribs but when it comes to an actual situation all of a sudden they need drones so no cops are in any iota of danger.
It is a massive invasion of privacy (like everything public school)
It's absolutely number 2... They leaving the parking lot.
This is a joke, right?
I thought it was an Onion article at first
The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a drone is a good guy with a drone.
"It's a bit like that movie The Matrix, where the agent can jump into the nearest person and immediately be good to go. We're a little bit like that—but we're the good guys,"
At last, zero self awareness, wow.
I'm sure this won't have a impact on mental health
My gut says when you have to say you are "the good guy" you are in fact "the bad guy."
Gonna be some ED-209 moments.
Too bad about Kenny, eh?
Fantastic. Remote controlled school shootings.
I wonder when the first one will happen?
"New Challenge Unlocked!"
I guess good since cops would rather all the children be shot than face a threat.
I think we know what the next step is here. Mass shooters start using armed drones.
Innocent children will die to trigger happy drone cops. It's going to be a remote controlled Uvalde.
I saw Chopping Mall! I know how this ends.
I'm so glad I'm not a young person in school
Gen Alpha is screwed even more than gen Z
While getting into an arms race with school shooters is kind of a ridiculous path, I do wish we would take this opportunity to develop personal force field/shield technology like they have in Dune.
Let me guess. They also use AI?
this could only be stupider if they said AI would be used to deploy the drones
