  • When I was in the US it was just confusing sometimes. Like I went to this restaurant to order a pizza, to-go. They had a sign outside and the pizza was like 18 dollars, but when you want to pay its more because of tax, and now they also expected a tip. Ok but it's to go right? So you also tip when getting groceries? The entire system just felt very arbitrary.

  • Have you seen what happens to animal species that evolve on some island and one day an non native exotic animal is introduced? In a lot of cases that animal goes extinct. Even if we would all magically agree to never attack other counties and all dissolve our army's, only 1 country has to break the packt and we all have a real chance to be invaded. If we are doing imaginary systems, I would suggest a system where we all agree to respect current borders and never invade and all also agree to fight any country that breaks the rule. Sort of a more global and more elaborate NATO.

  • First of all of those parties I only consider D66 as central. Ja21 is far right. VVD pretends to be center but is also very right. SGP and CU are right and Christian so very conservative.

    The thing about the freezing, it basically means healthcare stays as it is, and the newest most expensive treatments aren't automatically added to system, but the current ones are still valid. It's not great, but we need to seriously step up our military to gain more independence from the US, so we can defend ourselves against Putin, even if the US would choose not to help. This is going to cost a lot, so we need to either cut costs somewhere (healthcare is one of the biggest expenses) or we need to borrow more. Borrowing more will also kick the cheque down the road, basically making it the problem of the next generation. In a better world there was no thread of war and all the money could be spend on things like healthcare, but that is not the reality we live in.

  • I would call myself a (left) centrist, but I guess in has a different meaning where you live. In the Netherlands not even a right party is about letting people die without insurance.

  • I think what will hurt them much more is the EU realizing the danger in dependence on American tech like Microsoft, and slowly replacing it with (open source) alternatives.

  • This meme is just so annoying and dumb. I'm not from the US so yeah the Democrats would be considered right in most EU countries. But saying its either that or anarchy and Communism, is just dumb. Just like the political right, the political left is a spectrum. Where I live we don't have a 2 party system. There is a big difference between a centre right and far right party, same for the parties on the left.

  • Yeah what I mean is for me it doesn't really matter, I am not going to break a bottle, and even if I accidentally did (not really sure how at the beach in soft sand) I would clean up the glass pieces. Broken bottles at the beach are left by assholes, not by accident.

  • Yeah I mostly learned English watching Cartoon Network, when it wasn't with subtitles or dubbed. They basically started airing in the Netherlands and an entire generation learned English by watching cartoons after school.

    This is now repeating with YouTube and teens watching a lot of English youtubers.

    I miss those days, Dexter's laboratory, Dragonball Z, two stupid dogs...
