Name that game
Name that game

Morrowind.
I still listen to this music when working. Puts me right in the mood
Maybe if the book was eight times taller
The book is from the game and actually only has 2 pages in it.
Morrowind!
Spin the roulette wheel of all Sonic games.
Jet set radioooooooo
Looking Glass Studio
Miss them so much
Nobuo Uematsu carried hard with his music. Squeenix hasn't been the same since he left the company
So much of my emotional investment in FFXIV is enhanced by the music, especially in Endwalker.
Crusader: No Remorse
MechWarrior 2, especially Ghost Bear's Legacy
Descent 1 + 2
Dungeon Keeper 2
Unreal 2
Populous
Prince of Persia series
+1 for mech warrior. Played that in the CD player a ton.
Megaman 2 for me. Shit was hard but I still listen to the soundtrack
About the majestic soundtrack of Doom: That's why it's still my ringtone.
Populous: The Beginning
Black and White
Warcraft 1 & 2
Monkey Island 1-3
I could go on.
Black and White was 2000s
Ah, so it was. That era is pretty much all blurred together in my mind.
Donkey Kong Country had like. One of the best video game soundtracks of all time. Game was really hard towards the end too. One of my fav games of all time.
Doom could apply here too. ID was very much a small studio of dorks with a limited budget.
what the fuck are these images supposed to convey this some egyptian hyrogliphic shit wtf
Graphics: See image render quality Team: Small group of people, probably friends Story: Reasonable length, linear, like a book Budget: Probably no real budget, just however much time everybody can put in, so empty wallet Gameplay: Sweaty - old games do tend to be difficult and frustrating Soundtrack: Actually fire
The book is another layer. It references the image format of two books next to eachother, one being labeled as a long story and the other labeled as the same story, but with some twist that makes the story much shorter or non-existant.
So it's saying that it has short or non-existant story.
I still remember playing the Colin McRae rally demo on PS1 for the first time in 1998 or 1999 and seeing the Impreza WRX get mud splatters on it's sides in real time while drifting through the Scottish highlands. There have been few if any as awe inspiring gaming moments since, maybe the original Gran Turismo replay graphics.
Optimal game dev size.
Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood.
Those were build different.
Come on Lemmy.
Its been 23 hours since this got posted.
How has Chrono Trigger not already been mentioned?
Because Chrono Trigger's story is more like three bibles stacked. Not a flimsy novella.
I thought that had a good memorable story?
Star Control 2
Dito. And Gothic 1 is from '98
I don't remember this game much, but the sound track is a banger
9 days old?! Dank!
/s
Ultima Online, for sure. Anyone who says the Minoc theme song isn't banging is drunk and on drugs
Graphic's
Just a picture of Tim follin on the bottom right would have been enough, his music is sole weird voodoo only a Tim filling could pull of.
Bro went fire on everything, like pictionary;

I never really had sounds in the 90s. Always caused my mom to get headaches. All video games were played on low or no volume.
You poor bastard.
I started playing Day of the Tentacle without voices because I couldn't figure out the sound configuration.
Counterpoint, some 90s games like Half-Life had a pretty good story
I think the meme is suggesting most games had a decent story. Not Game of Thrones level, but a decent 200 page book.
System Shock 2
Secret of Mana would fit everything but the graphics. Those graphics were fire when they came out.
Dev's
what does the dev possess?
WHAT DOES THE DEV POSSESS???
For me it'd be Driver 1 and 2 followed by Lost World: Jurassic Park for the PS1.
The beat for Driver 1's San Francisco theme just slaps
Thought it was going to be Seinfeld for a moment
Wing Commander, Privateer, and Strike Commander for me.
Timesplitters 2
I am not sure about the budget portion for GameFreak during the release of Pokemon Colosseum as Nintendo was reworking the pay structure and their work with GameFreak around that time.
Colesseum though, I just played it for the first time ever and my god it is hardest and most tedious of the entire series and the music is killer. The underlying narrative and lore is interesting when you start adding XD Gale or Darkness into the mix as well.
ah yes, the touhou games I still haven't completed a single one without retries
Created by one person, he made everything in the game including game engine.
DEATH BY STEREO AAAAUUUUYYYYAAAAHHH
bonus points to whoever gets the deep cut
Anything with the Folletts on soundtrack duty.
KoF 96 and 99. X men Cota. SF3 second impact. You go back to those and the gameplay is hard as balls. Cota is like playin in a honey jar. Kof 96 has 3 characters that bitchslap all the others no problem. 99 I heard the meta has some.outliers but for casuals is like they tried something and nothing at the same time. Second impact came to fix newgen and fix.it did but boy it's crazy to play half the shit goes wonky. All of them where made with low to nonexistent budgets although Second impact has an asterisk since is more like a patch. All teams where small. Music is fire for all of them.
Prince of Persia.
Jordan Mechner is one of the greatest.
Bob et Bobette for Game Boy Color. OST by Maniacs of noise https://youtu.be/yg6Ebg2JT8g
soundtrack spot on
Any OG Pokemon game
Crash Team Racing music goes so fucking hard
good ol Minecraft
or the old versions anyways
By far my favorite game of all time. 11/10
I was so disappointed in RA3. It was absolute shit
