Which game do you think really deserves a proper remaster?

Which game do you think really deserves a proper remaster?
Jade Empire for sure, maybe Need For Speed Underground 2.
Heretic and Hexen, give them the Doom 2016 treatment. I would play the hell out of that
A proper Morrowind remake a la Oblivion Remastered would be awesome. It’s a fantastic game but painfully dated. A fresh coat of paint and some modernizations (not too many though) would be amazing.
That looks amazing. I’m super hyped now.
Megaman Legends.
Incredibly well made for its time and a modern remaster would help breathe new life into the basically dead megaman franchise.
Thief 1 and 2
I would love to see a remastering of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.
• Bubble Bobble (original NES)
If they modernized Dark Souls and fixed the last third of the game it might be the greatest game ever made. I adore Dark Souls but it is so dated. It’s hard to recommend it to someone honestly. After Shadow of the Erdtree came out and I beat it a few times I decided to revisit Dark Souls, and holy shit it felt old. I still love it to death but it was kinda brutal. The DLC is considerably better but still very dated. Compare Kalameet with Bayle and you’ll see just how far they’ve come. No hate on Kalameet though, he’s the OG tough as nails dragon boss. Still a highlight of the series for me, just very dated.
If we’re talking about new FromSoft content in general though I’m still holding out for more Sekiro content like a sequel or DLC (shut up, yes, I know, just let a man dream). Give me some Tomoe content. I wanna fight or learn more about her. And I want more gameplay with that fight system. It remains my favourite gameplay of any game ever. I still prefer Elden Ring + DLC as a game in general, but purely gameplay-wise Sekiro remains #1 and we need more like it.
I still think DS1 is the best place to start if you've never played a Soulslike. It's really your only chance to get the full best impression as coming back to it after playing Elden Ring or something your reaction to most of the bosses will be "... that's it?". If it's your first soulslike they'll feel epic. And it's really not that unapproachable, just tell people to take it slow and use a shield, and ask you for directions if they get stuck somewhere.
I still have yet to play Sekiro, I need to tackle it some day but it honestly intimidates me. Several parts of DS3 and ER already felt like it were pushing against my skill ceiling in a way that was unfun and in Sekiro you can't even cheese or grind or rely on gimmicks. I'm fairly certain I'll not be able to finish it, and I won't enjoy bashing my head against it until I give up and feel like a useless sack of shit.
Another vote for NOLF 1/2!
Back in the day those games were an absolute delight. A fresh lick of paint and some modernisation would be amazing.
You can go back and play them again right now if you want, they're available on nolfrevival and since nobody knows who owns the rights to them nobody is bothering to contest the copyright.
The gameplay does not hold up well. I still have it installed and will make another attempt to get through it at some point but it was not particularly fun to play. Many old FPSes do feel terrible nowadays in truth, we've come a long way in that particular genre and such a large part of the enjoyment of those games is in the feel of the gunplay itself - which has typically aged like milk.
The latter had an awesome fan made 3D remake called Chrono Resurrection and then Square sent a C&D and shut it down.
FF6 would be amazing as a 3D remake as long as they didn’t try to do the “let’s divide it into 3 games and change things up!” Like they did with 7.
FF6 is my favourite but I will personally travel to Japan and fight to the death before letting the Nomura-Najima "dream team" get their hands on it.
"Proper" remaster is the important qualifier, here. Also, we will know Final Fantasy 6 has a proper remaster when everyone realizes that 6 was a masterpiece that 7 only overshadows in length. Final Fantasy 6 packs so much into each moment and has such a diverse lineup of characters that 7 feels more drawn out with more filler to compete. Also 6 has better combat. I said it.
Golden Sun would really benefit from a remaster. A higher resolution and better sound quality will make it more enjoyable.
As for New Vegas, I like it, but I like Fallout 3 more for the atmosphere.
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. The original has a lot of technical issues, and has essentially become abandonware. However, it's still easily one of Troika's greatest cRPGs, so it's a real shame that it's just being left to languish. The underlying game is interesting enough that I think a fresh coat of paint and some new audio would do a lot to bring in a new generation if players, but would really love if a team of fans were willing to bring it back even better than before.
essentially become abandonware
Eh, that term is for games that you can't get anywhere, like No One Lives Forever, Mechwarrior 4 or Battle for Middle Earth 1/2. Arcanum has been on GOG and Steam for ages now
It's a good shout, but I played it for the first time earlier this year and let me tell you - that game needs more than just a fresh coat of paint to appeal to a modern gamer.
Like all Troika games it had amazing potential and occasionally glimmers brilliantly, but had godawful execution and often plays like dogwater.
Pong. It's got no unlocks. No achievements. No ranks. And it only supports 2 players. At least add a bot.
That would unironically make Pong more interesting to me.
Pong: The Next Level?
Pong 2025 Plus - now a MMORPG. With loot boxes, skins and other amazing NFTs. For a subscription fee you can even skip the ads!
Others have already said KotOR and Golden Sun, so lemme think.
Sid Meier's Pirates! could use one. Well. A second remaster I guess!
Mail Order Monsters was cool! Custom built monsters! Could do so much more now with it.
The Spore we were promised, alas alas.
Why doesn't the anniversary edition count?
The jump in visual fidelity isnt that big and I don't like what they did with the faces of the new models :(
Descent: Freespace, The original Heavy Gear, Tribes 2, Mechwarrior 2.
Descent: Freespace especially. At the time that thing was awesome and so easy to mod. I remember someone was making a fantastic Babylon 5 mod for it that I dont' think ever saw the light of day.
FreeSpace Open is still a thing if you are interested in an updated FreeSpace game. It's not a remake, but the graphics updates are pretty substantial
had no idea this existed, thanks i'll check it out.
These, specially Descent amd Heavy Gear, loved those.
Disciples 2 and I want a proper sequel (we don't talk about disciples 3)
Total Annihilation (best RTS);
Little Big Adventure 2.
I love LBA2. It's one of those games that makes me feel justified in my scorn of many others. That is to say there were many games of the era that had me asking "That's it? Where's the rest of the game?"
LBA2 didn't have that problem. A glorious open world, gorgeous isometric interiors. Adventure. Comedy. Progression. Multiple ways to approach problems. Space travel!
Very French, in a good way.
Yes for Total annihilation
Actually it seems to have been released already, on GOG:
Twinsen is back in this remake featuring a new stylish makeover and modernized gameplay. Faithful to the original game, Little Big Adventure – Twinsen’s Quest takes you on an epic journey on a small planet harboring both magic and technology.
https://www.gog.com/en/game/little_big_adventure_twinsens_quest
That's the remake of the first one.
I had never heard of LBA2, I like the unique art style.
Looks like a remake is coming soon... https://store.steampowered.com/app/2352230/Little_Big_Adventure__Purple_Empire/
AFAIK this remake has been put in hold since the company has not secured the required funding.
My list:
same as oblivion remaster
I hated the oblivion remaster. The changes to the leveling system made it way too easy to level up, and it was still inundated with bugs, despite being 19 years old and having a fan base that already fixed all the bugs. Not to mention, the UI was broken and buggy as fuck for a lot of the menus in the game (alchemy was particularly frustrating to deal with). Changes to combat meant a literal dagger was S tier and you were throwing the game if you used a greatsword.
I actually haven't played the remaster. I play the original with mods instead, because I wanted to tweak the enemy level scaling, and I prefer the colour palette of the original.
I just feel that Fallout 3 with better graphics would be great. I hope they won't mess up the gameplay.
Tales of Symphonia, but properly remaster it. All the content from later ports, but at 60fps just like GameCube. I'd also port in Free Run, because that's such a key addition to later titles that it's hard to go back to Symphonia without it.
I'd also just like to see any of the classic 2D Tales games, especially ones that were never released in the west. Phantasia PSP when?
Kid Icarus Uprising desperately needs to be available on modern platforms. I'll be the first to say stylus aiming was good and it may be a bit of a downgrade to keep up with the game's breakneck speeds without it, but gyro aiming would be close enough. What I'd really like to see is a way to play Light vs. Dark without weapon min-maxing, I think it'd be substantially improved with base weapons only.
I might be stretching the definition of remaster a bit, but I'd love a Game & Watch collection that picks up where the Gallery games left off. Just put every (non-licensed) title in one package. New Modern versions would be great.
Never gonna happen in a billion years, but my ultimate dream would be a Boktai Trilogy collection. You could have a USB-C Solar Sensor peripheral, it could work. It's possible. It won't happen, but it's possible.
We need God Hand HD (a la Okami HD) for PC and modern consoles.
I'd also like to see some PS2 classics get remasters:
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge
Ghost Rider
10,000 Bullets
Gungrave
Shinobi
Bujingai
Genji: Dawn of the Samurai
A lot of PS2 games have graphics that aged poorly. Too many developers thought shades of brown and gray equals realistism.
Okami was a good exception, unique art direction that was colourful and stylish. Too bad I didn't enjoy the gameplay (I couldn't get past the extremely long intro and tutorial).
Yeah, I don't blame you. It's my least favorite Kamiya game, but it's a fun Zelda-like, and the Celestial Brush mechanic eventually gave birth to the Wonder Liner in The Wonderful 101, so I'll always have a soft spot for it because of that.
I hope Okami 2 is a proper action game, or at least a Zelda-like with more engaging combat.
Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero.
Logistically, it’d be a piece of cake. They still look gorgeous, and play great; basically all they really need is to render in UHD and swap some assets, though some of the cloud prettiness of the newest Ace Combat would be nice.
Don't have many games for me in that. Would love a Fallout 2 remaster, something that improves the visuals, and adds some QoL improvements, but keeps the game the way it is.
Was happy with Diablo 2 remake, but I haven't actually played it yet, so not sure how faithful it is.
Would love Black & White, or Settlers 2 remaster. They made a new Settlers game, but it didn't get great reviews, from what I recall.
Settlers 2 had a 3D remake in 2006. Not sure if this is the Settlers you're saying that didn't receive good reviews - https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_settlers_2_10th_anniversary
I was talking about The Settlers: New Allies
It's a 2023 reboot of the series.
Armored Core 4 really struggled on release. I'd love to see it get rebuilt for modern hardware and let it shine.
Wing Commander series.
Crimson Skies. How the fuck have we not had another Crimson Skies? We went through the whole pirate fad and with the current political situation of the USA...
I played through Crimson Skies for the first time a few years ago and I heartily agree. So much fun! A bit janky though so yeah, a remaster would be fantastic.
Hogs of War - it's something like Worms in 3D, but from all the way back in 1998. The PS1 game works fine, but the PC release was bugged with enemy AI not moving at all.
Team Buddies - really fun action game on the PS1, could shine with 4v4 multiplayer on the internet
Jazz Jackrabbit - Bigger resolution at least, with more of the level being visible at any time. Modern controller support would also be awesome.
RAGE
I've never played Rage but I just checked the screenshots on Steam. The graphics looks nice and modern. What do you want it improved in the remaster?
The game suffers from a number of technical issues, but the game itself has some charm. The biggest complaints I had were the awful texture pop-in and persistent crashing. The textures have aged poorly as well.
As someone who played and finished the game back when it was new, I don't see why anyone would want a remaster of it. It's an ok shooter, but there's nothing memorable other than the driving (which was just boring)
Final Fantasy VII. Fans have made beautiful new models with better textures on Nexus, and it makes me wish Square Enix had bothered to do more than just up-res the graphics and backgrounds before calling it a day. That's the only remake I ever wanted.
https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7/mods/4
Reminds me of Square's announcement of Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation 4 in 2014, the one that everyone was expecting to be the remake, but it was just the same PS1 game with nothing new.
