  • I once tried to delete something I was not supposed to and the system was quite adamant on advising against it. The system was to be reinstalled so I was just trying things.

It's been a while but I recall the system giving me a first warning that my command woud delete X, Y and Z, which could render the system inoperable.

Then it questioned me if I was sure I wanted to proceed with the operation.

The final warning was a sum of the potential damage I would do to the system and that it would be irreversible, without a full system install.

    So, three strikes.

  • Isn't that a japanese thing? With cafes where you go to talk with a person?

But back to the subject at hand.

I could see this as a way to get someone's help to take some groceries home or some large object a single person can't, as it is too akward to hold alone.

Or as a personal guide or to have company to go to/through somewhere someone does not feel comfortable.

  • Corporate Branding
  • Nobody can pay me enough for me to carry their logo as free publicity.

I wear logoed clothing because the logo acts as identification and grants me special acess to fenced off areas, which I otherwise wouldn't be able to lawfully acess. But when the clock is off, the logo is off.

  • I don't say this much but that is actually a good idea, considering the amount of people that live very lonely and isolated lives. Maybe this can help some people to talk, enjoy another's company, etc. Maybe. Everything else the effing internet and tech companies tried only managed to push people apart...

  • Looks Like 3DO Might Be Getting An Unofficial Port Of PS1 Classic WipEout | Time Extension
  • Wipeout was one of the few games that made me want to play it from the moment I first saw it.

The concept was novel, the graphics were beautiful, how all the ships moved and reacted (in game physics) seemed a level above.

    Never played it, unfortunately.

If there was a port for PC, under linux, I'd do my best to get it, today.

  • A possible tarot reading would be a love affair/relationship (ace of hearts) between a (possibly) older woman (queen of spades) with nefarious intents will lead to severe problems with the mans (king of hearts) family (ace of hearts+ace of clubs) and to an ugly break, between the couple and between familuy members (2 of clubs).

A bad throw, if I've ever seen one.

  • "The Shopping Center Disconnect" (Art by Sylvia Odhner)
  • I have a Lidl, an Intermarché and another national store where I live.

Besides the Intermarché, that is an old store that hasn't seen upgrades or renewals since ever, the two other stores have dedicated access for pedestrians and vehicles.

The Lidl store even has a dedicated foot path you can use, through their garden, to access the grounds but you can, safely, enter through the vehicle entrance: there is a pedestrian cross and a pedestrian access there.

The other store has a vehicle exclusive access, directly from the road. Yet it still has a pedestrian cross on it (connects to a sidewalk on both sides) and has pedestrians access. But it also has dedicated pedestrian accesses built.

I recognize the situation in the comic is real but mostly for older stores. And even those are not exempt of being forced to create or improve accesses to pedestrians.

  • What should I store in a 1 Gallon (3.7 liter) Pickle Jar?
  • More pickles!

Get some beets, boil them, allow to cool, peel, slice, throw in the jar.

In a pot, add water, vinegar, salt, sugar, pepper corns, some herbs. Boil.

    Add to jar.

    Wait two to three weeks.

    Enjoy.

    Rinse, repeat.

  • Does this qualify as such?

I just got served with this. It is a real novelty item.

    Shrimp and clams pasta

Simple shrimp and clam pasta. Quick, simple, nourishing. The picture is missing the parsley on top and the dish was missing a lot of chilli spice but there was one person at the table that can't tolerate it.

European options for independent authors and creators?

Per the title, what options exist in Europe for independent authors and creators to make themselves known and sell their work/receive support from fans, besides through their own personal websites?

Smashwords was the almost default option for years for indie authors; Amazon also took their piece of flesh. Then there was Patreon.

It always made sense to me to have an european alternative to those sites.

I've already found Xinxii and am in the process of exploring it.

    What else is out there?

Anyone (else) getting forced alart resets on Android?

I'm getting constant system notifications alerting me that my alert - AMBER, etc - settings have been reset.

What is intriguing me is that these alerts are not broadcast in country. I'm in Europe. And those who do are broadcast through SMS service.

The first line on the system alert mentions something about "presedential communications".

    Anyone else?

Does it make sense to persue higher education after 40 years ood?

    Pretty much that.

I've been trying to get a degree since I was in my early twenties. Too many things happened and I never got around to do it.

I have close to zero probability to ever work in my field of choice, which is Social Sciences, with a minor in Psychology, given my age.

Theoretically, I could try to become a high school teacher, as there is a great demand for teachers in my country and it will only grow in the next years to come, but entering public teaching is extremely hard and was made even harder after schools were handed direct hiring; nepotism grew ten fold.

I would like to be the first in my family to get a degree, if nothing else to say that I did it.

There is no need of going into debt for it, as I can enroll in a college where I can enroll only in one or two classes per semester and only pay for those; tuition would be around €98 per class.

But I know myself. I like to work alone. I have no patience to deal with group tasks. Never could. I don't mingle, I don't socialize. And I really have something against stuck up people, be them be teachers or fellow students. I'd get in trouble really fast.

I guess that is it. What do you say?

Thinking about picking up interview and pre-hiring trainning trolling as a hobby.

My partner is currently job hunting and I've got to know some very ugly behaviours from interviewers and train staff, towards the people applying for those jobs.

From snarky attitudes, to blattant lies and attempts on trying to withold information or ignore legal impositions and rights, these companies are power tripping and the people in them are deranged.

Well, I happen to have a job and am fairly aware of my rights, so I'm considering applying for these interviews and throw some poison back at this people.

Resource/learning material for an assignment on computer networks

Please allow me to share a little bit too much before going to the point of the post.

Last November I decided to enroll in a course to get official recognition of something I've been doing for the last twenty years, which is to put together and install computers. The course is Computer Hardware and Repair/Fault Diagnosis (loose translation)

I learned the hard way, by myself, making mistakes and taking apart old machines and trying to revive hardware I was constantly told it was useless and/or obsolete. Linux was a great part of this. I'm an obnoxious FOSS/Linux crusader and I'm not ashamed.

In order to finish a course where I gained absolutely zero new knowledge and was taken as non-serious for stating I do not use anything but Linux for my daily computer needs I now have to, with no relation whatsoever and classes on it, design on paper a computer network.

Because I'm petty, I'd like to design it completely around Linux and FOSS solutions. Just to mess with the people that have even imposed I have to write the assigment in Word, with Arial font.

Please, point me towards some sources I can use. Nothing too in depth is necessary.

    How are batteries recycled?

I know the lithium batteries are supposed to be a pain to recycle but how are the conventional ones broken down to recover all the materials?

I have a bucket I throw dead batteries into and picking it up made me realize just how heavy it is. That is a lot of metal. And metal is money.

Confirmat screws or a different screw?

I'm about to start putting together some simple furniture and one thing I want is to have the option to collapse it, if I need to move it out of a room.

I've looked into confirmat screws and those are incredibly strong but have the downside of requiring specialized drill bits to use. These screws I can get easily in my market, in 500 units boxes.

Are there other options I can look into?

    Added information

Material to be used will either be OSB3 or plywood.

Signal crossover to other messaging apps

Some time ago, I read an article that all messenger apps, by EU directive, would have to build bridge protocols in order to have flow of communication between different networks.

Surfing the web, I read an article from 2016 where the Signal protocol was being integrated into Whatsapp. More recently, I read that Signal and Telegram could communicate.

What is the true status on this? The more I search, the more contradicting information I seem to find.

    Nobody needs this crap.

So why am I to find this crap in Lidl?

    Inkscape and Krita online courses

As per the title, I'm trying to find online courses to learn basic skills both on Krita and Inkscape, as I intend to use these tools to design board games for personal use.

Using Youtube videos doesn't work very well for me.

    Can anyone suggest a source?

OSB or plywood for general cabinet making?

I need/slash want to build a few pieces of furniture for my house.

After visiting a shop, I had the carpenter go on a long tirade on how my choice on OSB was poor, when compared to the standard plywood the shop uses for their work, being weaker and not as "clean" looking.

We personally like OSB, here. We already have a few pieces and the rough look of the material is our style.

But is it really a poorer choice when compared to plywood?

The next project will be a bookcase and it will have to withstand a heavy load.

I brought a small strip of plywood home with me, as a sample. The material is made up of five layers. If necessary, I can upload a picture later.

I intend to use 15mm material for the sides of the boxes that will compose the bookcase, with 9mm for the back. These specifications exist for OSB; on plywood, I was told the closest is 13mm and 6mm.

Can someone share some advice and knowledge in what can be the better choice to build this project?
