How many people do you have blocked?
Slightly over 100 for me. Along with people I dislike, I also like to block people on a whim even those i never interact with, so my block list is all over the place.

three
Zero. Even if I vehemently disagree with someone I am still willing to see what they said.
I think echo chambers and "bubbles" are incredibly dangerous.
And it's pretty easy to crawl into a random chamber without even noticing it. In fediverse that's a lot less of a concern, but on algorithmic driven platforms I've caught myself couple of times in a hole I didn't notice I dug myself in.
None. Gotta have someone going against the crazies.
I haven't blocked anyone yet. Haven't had enough of a problem to warrant the effort.
I did add a tag to one guy out of curiosity and now im seeing him everywhere
About a dozen people.
Communities, on the other hand, is a far higher number. I don't know the number but it's all the anime, AI, and furry communities.
Eight, but this account is only a couple weeks old.
I've never blocked anyone.
Two Nicoles
Uhhh, none.....
Hundreds. Comms, instances, users...
Reasons are everything from AI slop to US politics to folks posting pages upon pages of the same content. I also block comms and instances where I don't speak the main language.
Around 40, mostly bots. The community block list is much longer.
Why is no one asking why you also just block random people for no discernible reason? I don't know how to check my block list, but I don't think I have anyone blocked (but maybe there is one or two). I have a shitton of instances blocked because I don't want to see porn in my feed though. I have no qualms with users of porn commuties or letting them do what they want, but that isn't what I'm interested in or want to see.
On here? Like 40 something, but largely spammers. Blocked far more subs though, mostly of content that does nothing for me. On Bluesky I'm subscribed to a blocklist or two for MAGA types and tend to block anyone who follows me with a suspiciously high follow count.
Zero.
Because I'm not a fucking pussy.
My list of people blocked? Teeny-tiny. My list of instances and communities? Well, now we've hit the jackpot.
I instantly blocked any .ml community. Fuck those tankies.

I avoid most controversial comment threads since I'm not here for drama. I do have a few people I put user tags on if I see them have consistent bad takes or if they treat other people poorly so I can avoid interacting with them. There hasn't been any need for me to actually block anyone.
This isn't directed at you personally, but these threads pop up from time to time, and for how few people are active commenters here, to have 100 blocks and the need to share that feels like something of a red flag to me. I don't think I've blocked more than a dozen people in about 30 years of being online.
I'm already wasting my time on this site and other "social media", I don't need to waste more of it by seeing shitty commenters regularly. You tag them to avoid, I block them to avoid. We are doing very similar actions, but I don't even see them and waste my time reading the tag that tells me they suck
Idk. You do you but curating my online experience is not a red flag, it's healthy
I'm not going to tell you your methodology is wrong, you give a perfectly valid reason for doing what you do.
I don't so much as avoid them, I will still often check what they are saying, but I look at what they're saying to other people. If I know someone is trolly or has a pretty shitty bias, if I see them misrepresenting things, it offers me a way to maybe offer a contrary opinion to those they're talking to, or I can see they may be the wrong person to talk to about ethical/moral things but may still be good for getting answers to technical questions from.
There's people here I just won't engage with at all just as in the real world, but just like in life there's people I know to just avoid certain topics or opinions with but they're still ok people or can be helpful in the right context.
Now, both online and in real life, if I encounter one of those people who swears everyone is always starting shit with them for no reason, often it becomes obvious that there is a reason why they have so many problems with other people, and usually they are the common denominator. Not always, but I'd say the majority of the time. And especially someone proud of telling strangers that they have a big list of people they don't like or want to waste their time on, it makes me wonder why. That's why it's a red flag. You can tell me that's who you are, and I don't have to decide that second to avoid you, but I'm certainly going to feel you out a bit more than I would someone else that decides to give me a friendlier first impression. That's me looking out for me, just as your methodology does for you.
I just see myself as someone who gives strangers the benefit of the doubt to start with, and that is yours to mess up. Some people don't trust strangers and they have to earn that initial trust first. I don't know you or your story so I won't hold that against you, but I do feel that tells me something about you. You have to actively work on it for me to outright distrust you, but at the same time, don't think of my trust and friendliness as naivete. I'm paying attention very closely, I'm just letting you show me who you are rather than forming my own assumptions.
"Why is lemmy such an echo chamber?"
"build your own echo chamber with this one neat trick"
Because it's easier to build a community without excluding the assholes, and it's easier to build an opinion without including opposing views.
I'll start my own echo chamber, with blackjack cat memes and hookers beans (cat paw-beans)
Just depends on who youโre blocking. Sometimes itโs objectively obvious whoโs just being a troll.
I have 4 users blocked, one instance and 4 communities.
like 15, but 7 of them are alts of the same user
Edit: its closer to 30, extremely toxic people or propagandists
I used to just not block so I can downvote them when I see them, but its getting increasingly more toxic and I had to block them.
Not that many, just obvious bots/scams. The app I use has user tagging so I can assign a color tag and text tag per user. Red = for me, do not engage and yellow = for me, engage with caution.
I tend not to block real humans, even the trolls, because often times the responses are interesting to me. I've learned some real facts about my trans peeps here on Lemmy because some people took the time to give informative responses to the community's benefit, despite the question being an obvious troll attempt.
Some of my tags include yellow for "AI slop spreader" and red for "TERFy troll".
"People" as in actual humans? None, I think.
If I block those with frequent trash takes, I won't get to downvote them next time. Other reasonable people would then see their future posts with higher scores.
I'd argue voting system is overrated.
I had quite a few comments downvoted into oblivion because my opinion was unpopular in some corners of Lemmy.
Like, go ahead and make a same political statement at .ml or .world, or come to some specific community to argue against the OP.
Or, in reverse, there are plenty of examples when hateful or wrong BS was upvoted to infinity.
I've seen this again and again with others, and I can confidently say voting is not a good metric for reason.
None, but I do tag trolls and other kinds of idiots, so I can avoid replying to them but still read what they're up to.
Iโve only blocked communities for AI-generated content and obvious spam. I havenโt blocked any users here yet and have almost never done that since I tend not to take the things they say personally and other peopleโs responses to them can be entertaining. There are some bots Iโve blocked too.
So all of dbshitterโs content?
None. I'm not a coward.
12 instances and rough estimate between 100 and 150 people blocked. Note a lot of them are blocked for posting spam ads or being bots, but a lot are blocked due to behavior. Fuck 'em. I only have so much time on this earth, and I'm not spending any more of it dealing with fuckheads than I have to.
Five.
I only block people if they actively harass me online. Otherwise, I'm fine with disagreement and do not tend to rage ban.
Still, if someone follows me around Lemmy to spite on everything, I'd rather have them blocked to keep this place nicer.
Oh, and there's Nicole in there, of course.
nicole is in my dm, I haven't blocked the poor fediverse chick
Only Nicole. I just tag the propaganda spammers like [@geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml using Voyager, so I don't need to read their posts first, but that's it. Instance wise however I blocked lemmy.ml and ani.social
92 people, 5 instances.
mostly spam bots. I can't find any irl humans in my killfiles.
Oh dear, now Iโm wondering if Iโm on your list or not :)
I only have two bot accounts blocked, not even sure if theyโre still active.
wow lag did intawesting thing to my comment
Oh good, so itโs not just me :)
SJW seems to be having some problems I think.

wow i thought i was lagging when i responded but actually its sh.itjust.works down
I sort by all and curate that down to what I want to see. So, lots.
32, most of them being spammers or serial posters, with the occasional bad faith and/or too hostile or angry person that I simply do not wish to read in the future.
I don't block entire instances because my feed only shows me what I'm subscribed to (meaning I don't see much of those communities that are the most likely to trigger shitty/low effort content posting) and I've not yet felt the need to censor a whole instance no matter how many morons, or worse, are thriving in it... simply because I'm not forced to read them.
BTW, when I moved from Lemmy to piefed the block list was one the two things I wished to bring with me. I could not bring the other one (my posts/comments) but, hey, at least I was able to keep spam and trolls at bay ;)
Edit: clarifications.
Very few myself. I only block people if I see them as actively wanting to do harm to me
33 but most of those are spam accounts. Actual people are hardcore tankies and the usual bigoted/racist shitheads. Maybe about 7 people I think?
I've got PugJesus and like three other people.
My blocked instances and communities, however, are too long to count. Probably well over a hundred.
Your account is less than one day old. How you do?
new account who dis
You can export settings and blocks from your old account to a new one. The users here tend to be pretty privacy-minded, so not wanting to put all your eggs in one basket is probably a common mindset. Thatโs why I ditch my old accounts once they hit around 1000 comments and start fresh on a different instance to lose the tail. Itโs too easy to become โfamousโ on a platform this small. Iโm sure many people like that - I donโt.
Probably migrated instances
4 users 1 instance. Mostly propaganda spammers. I wouldnt mind if the things they posted were high quality and thought provoking but its the lowest tier slop journalism and opinion pieces from people with no subject matter expertise.
So far, 2 users and 4 communities but Iโve only been here for 3 weeks (almost).
Some posts are so uplifting that it restores my faith in humanity, then the next post has nothing but toxic comments that makes my eyes hurt.
Keep curating! I hardly see unwanted stuff so my time here is very pleasant.
14 communities and 6 users. I mainly browse by Local/New no itโs usually overzealous new communities that veer too close to spam trying to generate content for the community. I try and wait them out but sometimes I just give up.
On the user side I think itโs mostly all alts for one troll
A number, but they're mostly posting bots and people who are prolific gay porn posters (or other porn that I don't want to see).
One, with another account I'll block if I see them again, but I'm fairly certain they're the same person. These accounts are a teenager asking any sexual question that pop into their mind.
I get being curious, but if you've seen Mickey/Michael around you already know it's a bit much.
About a hundred. The list used to be thousands of users long when I tried filtering out everyone pushing extremist policies or just being hostile in general - but it turns out thatโs most people here, since my feed completely died down. Now Iโm trying a different approach: blocking only the worst offenders and using keyword-based content filtering to hide the comments that poison my mind.
AI-powered content filtering canโt come soon enough. Even keyword filtering is a blunt tool. Iโd rather just describe the kind of content I donโt want to see and have it filtered out before it ever reaches me. Iโm sick of how angry everyone is here. Most people probably donโt notice it much since itโs usually directed at people they dislike too, but anger hits me differently. I donโt like feeling that emotion, and I donโt like being around angry people.
About 20 people, mostly Nicole variations and a bunch of trolls.
About 175 communities. I have absolutely no interest in sports, anime or related, and I'm very limited in the foreign languages I speak.
Mildly offended I've only gotten one Nicole spam experience to date. What am I, chopped liver?
I got 13. You're more than welcome to the spares ....
Only about fifteen or so. A few are bot accounts that I don't want to see, a few sent me spam during the whole Fediverse Chick thing, and the last few are just regular people who aren't doing anything necessarily wrong but who I just find tiresome and unpleasant in some way or another
How do i tell in voyager
I have a few. Mostly annoying ad hominem assholes.
On here? No one. On other platforms, only two people have ever given me enough grief that I needed to.
Only 14 for people and I can say for sure that 3 of those are alts of one person. Not sure how many of the others may be alts or even more alts of that one guy. Im a big block proponent but I don't believe in doing it casually with individuals. I do way more with communities but like half of that is because the language preference often does not seem to work.
I block spammers and scammers.. but when taking about real "I incredibly really dislike this person" kind of blocking, then that is 1.
He is like my shadow, completely opposite of how I would ever act with people. It drives me nuts every time I see a message from him since what he desires, I also desire, but he does it so so much worse in a way I would never do it.
We interacted once. Got kind of a negative-ish jokingly response, so I checked their history and... Yeah no.
There is also tons of other things I just clash with him on too, like some idealistic views..
In my eyes, he downgrades the community VASTLY with his hot takes, negativity and ignorance, but others disagree.. so I block him
