I remember when the internet was enough us-centric (or accurately localized) so “United States of America” was at the top of the list. Now I have to scroll way to the bottom. I guess I can’t argue about the fairness of it, but it’s still annoying.
With all the annoyances of everything needing to be thousands of JavaScript modules instead of a simple html page, can’t we get something useful out of it, like a localized country list where everyone gets theirs on top?
And then being from England being constantly guessing because I have no idea whether the drop down is going to list England, United Kingdom, Great Britain, or what.
Each of which refer to actually different geographical regions, but okay.
Wait until you find out that you can type the first letter and it will jump to that position in the list. Then - check this shit out - you can keep pressing that letter to jump through each item in the list. It takes me like 3 seconds.
Now, hold onto your hats, because you won't believe what you can do when picking your state...
Usually you can click on the year and it switches to year mode to make things easier, or just type the date and it figured things out. If not, you can use a massage gun on the mouse. Or a fast click app.
I was once filling a online form for my dad and made a joke about how much I have to scroll to get to his birth year and now I feel bad about it as I have to do the same for myself
It was nice before they started adding 2000-later. You could type the first number for the decade and it would bring you there. Now have to type "19" at the beginning like a neanderthal.
The Big Wheel used to give me mild anxiety as I kept imagining different ways to die spinning. Like your hand gets stuck or whatever. Final Destination type stuff.
I have this on one of the digicams I own. I don't think the designers ever considered that it would still be used in the year of our lord 2025. It's probably from 2010 or something, and it has this horrendous touch UI for selecting the date. You have to press down like 15 times to get to 2025, but due to the laggy unresponsive UI and touchscreen, this is quite the journey. Obviously it forgets the date whenever I take the battery out to charge it.
I know the little thing isn't sentient, but I still like to imagine it getting more and more astounded as the years increment further and further in the date selector.
