Captain Planet's enemies are now running the world and openly dismantling environmental protections like it's a matter of pride to them. And half the people that grew up watching Captain Planet voted them in.
Isnât that the point of superheroes, i.e. wish-fulfilment fantasies about there being one powerful and good being who could solve our very real problems?
There's a decent Robot Chicken skit on this, where the Captain doesn't want to resort to killing, but the Planeteers feel they have to after given no other option
It does have the same kind of feeling that the recycle symbols on plastic does. Like a distraction from the real problems or at least the source of them.
Ok, now imagine a live action Captain Planet (or wait 2 weeks, I'm sure some VOD will get on that nostalgia). Who are we casting? I'm calling Halle Berry as Gia.
