Bingo! It's an app which fetches videos from multiple sources like Youtube, Odysee, Rumble, Twitch, Kik, etc etc, and you can also select which sources would you want to search from and in which priority order. For example if an X youtuber also uploads his videos on Odysee and you prefer that source more, then that video will be shown from Odysee in your feed.
I need to do dishes and make dinner, and I'm avoiding that by posting on lemmy.
Or another example, I've needed to replace my washing machine for a couple months now, but I've just been going to the laundromat and avoiding doing any research. I have no excuse for that one, I just need to get on it.
These are not the same thing. Yearly health checks in Japan usually collect two stool samples. I actually was ordered to get a colonoscopy because of the results of those tests to look for things.
Figure out what's wrong with my car. Taking it to a shop is probably too expensive and figuring it out myself is too daunting of a task. It sometimes dies when I'm slowing to a stop, and I have to put it in park and restart it. Sometimes it's hard to start and then the tachometer stays at zero even though the engine is running.
I had something intermittent like this, and it turned out that I had a cracked distributor cap. It turned out to be a stupidly easy repair, and not a very expensive part.
Edit: this was a car as ancient as I am. I'm not sure modern cars even have that part, anymore.
Building my home server. I have all the parts but the sheer amount of different ways to set it up and all the things I need to learn to keep it safe. Especially now that all that (waves hand around) is happening, it’s so important I get on it. It kinda makes me want to cry. My brain isn’t as sharp now that menopause has hit, remembering things is really hard. Though my dr got me on a different regime of my adhd meds so hopefully that will help. Anyways, sorry for the ramble.
*I have looked at the self hosted and privacy communities, I think I’m going to go with Yunohost. It’s the internet part I’m worried about more.
Do your services need to be reachable from outside right from the start? If not, get yourself comfortable with hosting, maintaning and backing up the server. Automate your backups as much as possible and recover at least once from a full backup to check everything!
This should give you a solid baseline to then think about exposing your services, which is arguably the scariest part, but can come afterwards.
Thank you for your response! That’s really good advice. I can hold off for a bit, Joplin is my main service that I’ll need to be able to reach, but can keep using Dropbox to sync for now.
One thing that I haven’t quite sorted is our todos. We use Todoist right now, and it’s really great, but would like something self hosted. I haven’t found anything that has both an iOS and android app though, except Nextcloud. Any suggestions? I was contemplating just using Nextcloud to start to keep things simple, and then adding different services later, but Yunohost seems like a better solution.
Maintenance (already paid for) on both my motorcycle and car. I don't want to drive a motorcycle in the snow, but I have to use it before time runs out (it's +/- 3 months, I think). The car is due in April. I'm delaying making the reservations until next week when I get the results from some medical tests and get others done to figure out WTF is wrong with my body.
