The master of timing has done it again - stepping down while most of the cookers are playing referendum politics. I am in awe. I wonder who the cookers will protest about from now on. Not that reality features in their rhetoric.
Food Australia has been there a little more than 1 day and already 35 subscribers. I'm pretty chuffed. Thinking about expanding now. Drink Australia. BBQ Australia..... Anyway I must keep spruiking so if you haven't visited !foodaustralia@aussie.zone or !frugal@aussie.zone please do.
Okay, I am doing well at work. People are impressed I've jumped on inbound and doing outbounds within the first week and a bit. I'm good at it, and have much more to learn.
I'm very tired, but a weekly paycycle is such a blessing; as opposed to the curse of a monthly paycycle lol
The milk study I am on ends tomorrow, which means I am now going to have to start paying for my own milk again. Back to the cheapest long life milk available again.
VICTORY, MY FRIENDS!!! I have painstakingly upgraded this old phone to stock OS Android 10 (having to manually incrementally update from certain versions to another), upgraded everything and FLASHED A NEW ROM! Lineage 20 running Android 13! And bonus, thanks to the angels at XDA I have got root back on AND can still use my bank app and Google Wallet and have system wide ad blocking.
I will have to spend a decent amount of time later this week configuring the launcher and display etc. My only one stupid mistake was forgetting to use whatsapp's own service to backup messages to the cloud before doing all this; it apparently didn't detect wifi and hasn't done an automatic backup since the 22nd - and ye olde titanium backup can't restore data given that the app was running off such an ancient OS.
It all sounds silly but it really is a point of extreme and irrational inertia/avoidance updating things that substantially change the UI/UX of my phone (worse still changing the phone itself). This REALLY feels like dusting out the cobwebs and making a fresh start! :)
If I can get my banking and national login apps from my home country onto this phone off my iPhone (because that's the only thing it worked on), I'll be singing. e: banking might be a go, although again I stupidly should've disabled the digital token before all this, I'll have to sort it out in person in a few weeks. but national login is absolutely airtight, I might need to use a burner phone for the rare time I need that login thing. think mygov but on 30593095039403493094 steroids - I hate it, tbh, way too much info in one place.
Resignations aplentyโฆ Meanwhile I am still eating Doritos like theyโre going out of fashion. sigh Iโd like a rewind of this month, but cโest la vie. At least we have sunshine, so thatโs something.
So my ex-stepdad when I knew him was a DJ, and he now apparently streams his DJ stuff on Twitch. Anyways, so person A I've been looking after asked a question about this DJ we need to email and he said the same name as my ex-stepdad and I had a bit of an anxiety attack at work (but was secret about it).
Dear new premier, legal weed please. The fact it's illegal is basically a formality at this point. Give the cops something else to spend their $4.13 billion funding on.
Having to feed a hungry girl extra in the night. Come on bickies.
The black cat was outside this morning and has taken to mournfully meowing at me. I need to stop talking back to him or he might try to invite himself in. And he and Melbcat really donโt get along.
The spinach is barely starting to grow the buds of second leaves and all the carrot tops are coming up
We took the boys to the Barbie movie today. It was hilarious! You probably need to have grown up with Barbie in your house to get some of the references. Our kids have not, I'm sad to say - so they missed a lot. All the Patriarchy stuff would have gone right over their heads, also. Hopefully, that word is now in their lexicons though.
They claim it was a good movie, so it obviously still worked at their level. My wife and I had a blast laughing at it though. Great family fun.
Have a meeting today about possibly taking another position in my workplace, but I think it may come with a pay cut... As much as I want out of what I'm doing now, I really can't afford it, might have to put my big boy pants on and try and negotiate.
I am starting to suspect that Ted Cat has not been separated from his balls. He is stinky ( male cat type stinky ) and his little scrotum hasn't shrunk like I thought it would. Thankfully he is not spraying. I checked his papers again and it says desexed but that might be a lie. I will give it another week and then it's off to Lort Smith to get tranks so I can handle and transport him and see what is going on.
Coughed from 2am to 5am last night. Gonna get the only prescription-free bronchodilator I can use from the chemist and before resorting to the GP, who will probably be more sympathetic than the respiratory clinic guy.
Ooh, I can hand write on the phone with the stylus and it converts it into text. Not sure at this point if it is any quicker than the on screen keyboard, but it does a pretty decent job of handwriting recognition.
Phone progress going well, got a response from uber hopefully I can get this resolved. Found a rad browser (iceraven - tempted to use this on desktop too), a great tasks app, painter thankfully brings back amoled black theming and not this rubbish Material You grey whatever the fuck, got the rest of my apps working smoothly...
Need to find some solutions for customising notification bar (Tasker apparently does this - I want the date and my battery bar back up the top rather than squinting at a tiny battery icon)
But first I need to massively drag myself away from all this and get packing for my flight tomorrow ๐
Starfield needed an update, okay sure. Only issue was it was hanging around 2.7mb of like a 11mb download. But still having a lot of issues and such, trying to get it to install. Cancel the update, etc. And then xbox decides to just... uninstall it. So now I have to install a 117GB file.
The case for the new phone arrived today, so I have transferred the sim over and it has been given Primary Phone status. My preferred alarm app is installed and alarms set, hopefully it wakes me up at the right time for work tomorrow.
I don't know why, but I'm always a bit reluctant to use new things for a while - some sort of combination of wanting the familiarity of what I am used to and being scared I will wear out the new thing and it won't be special any more.
Two more SERIOUS PANIC!!! situations arose today with the phone just in the last hour - but within half an hour they were both resolved, and I can only think that maybe someone has been sending me blessings and putting in a good word for me with the universe.
peril!
Firstly, just as I was walking to the chemist my entire body sank like a stone when I remembered my stimulant prescription was an e-prescription AND I DIDN'T BACK UP MY TEXTS PROPERLY. Cue panic and desperation as my prescriber is on holiday for 2 more weeks and I only have enough meds to last me for one. I'm thinking - I am SUCH an idiot, this means more hours of troubleshooting to figure out how to get those messages over... but then I had the most wonderful person at my chemist who was in fact able to find a way to access all my e-prescriptions by accessing some safe list thing! She could've very easily fobbed me off but no...
And secondly - as I was out panicking I realised mobile data wasn't working on my phone for some reason - thought alright, there's another bloody headache... came home, swapped the sim card to a different slot and that was all there was to it. Crisis! Averted!
Chilling out with some Good Omens s2 with piles of dinner before I have a good shower and finish packing. I am really enjoying this season even more than the first, not just because of all that Jon Hamm...
Scheduled rest day from exercises today. Pizza day was pretty hectic and I'm super tired. I've had to buy a new phone, which I didn't want to do at the moment but my current phone won't even hold a charge for the whole day anymore. I just got a cheap phone from bigw, I have to go pick it up tomorrow and I'll take the Minipeelers for a little adventure.
Mr Peeler withdrew cash from an ATM at a servo and reckons it didn't give him all of the money, so that's something he has to sort out. Money's tight as it is; it's a favourite topic of discussion at work because all of us mums have had to take some days off with the kids being on school holidays. I'm trying not to feel worried or negative about the rest of the year.. I've got my 50th birthday coming up (I'm not doing anything because it'll cost too much), Mr Ps birthday, Christmas, the Christmas holidays (where I don't get work or wages for a couple of weeks) and the Elder about to start high school (new uniforms to buy and fees to pay). I'll work it out but it'll be a stretch financially and I guess I'm just feeling the pressure of being the only worker in the house with the family relying on me.
Pool noodle collar didnt stop long dog from reaching stitches. Poor bugger has the cone on stillโฆ. The vet did say it probably wonโt work for him. Gonna be a tough few days .
I just went to a North Indian food van - Mitroo in Clayton - even before I ordered I knew it was good. It was in a taxi company parking lot and I was the only white guy.
