Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead - Consumer Reports

The responses of the companies are infuriating. I am so sick of corporations giving blandness and absolving themselves of responsibility in the most patronizing tone possible.
Not me freaking out as a huel black consumer of 3 years
Go to your doctor and let them know, they may think blood tests would be worth doing. If your lead blood levels are high they can treat it to stop more damage from occurring.
Lmao same.
But isn't Huel UK based?
Doesn't matter where the company is based. All companies source their ingredients world-wide.
So many American health products have so many things wrong with them; perhaps the safest thing to do is never consume any supplements without doing homework.
Not just protein supplements but many fiber aids, and other things next to the daily vitamins sold in the store. One can seriously harm oneself going on a health food fad, diet or trend
And also the daily vitamins, which contain fillers of varying sketchiness. This is what happens when the FDA primarily relies on the industry to self-regulate. The only risk to those companies is being sued, and the only risk in that is them being caught.
This is just the free market at work. They all should have tested every shake and powder themselves to ensure that there was no lead. Smh my head.
Very interesting, and concerning that the plant based proteins are highest in lead. I am like halfway through 2 kilos of soy protein right now...
Stop now; better late than never!
This protein trend is dumb anyways who needs a protein latte or a proteini?
You'd need to care about exercise and your body for the trend to be useful for you
No.
The protein trend is separating fools from their money by selling them something they don't need.
I have pretty awful digestive issues, so meal replacement protein shakes are honestly one of the few options I can consistently have for lunches at work.
It's not all muscle-bound dudes drinking these, some of us actually need 'em. If I didn't drink them I'd have a massive protein deficiency.
That's why you have to do research and not just trust the labels. Labdoor (a third party testing site) has lots of proteins tested, lead and other heavy metals are part of the testing.
https://labdoor.com/rankings/protein
19 products and most from the same few brands. None of the most popular brands are in here. Doesn't seem very useful.
Not exactly comprehensive and odd that they all scored A+
That really is strange. I just checked and the list is not the same as it was when I posted the link.🤔 Not sure what's going on with the site, but I have seen many products get poor marks on there. I remember when optimum nutrition protein failed because of heavy metals. They used to show the full reports for free, now you need a membership to the site to see the full reports.
Maybe that’s why so many forced ads come up pushing for folks to use more and scoop it right into their mouth so they absorb more. Doesn’t make us dumb fast enough.
Talk to an average gymbro alpha male and it's entirely unsurprising.
That would explain the short tempers and reduced cognitive capabilities of my friends who guzzle that stuff.
That's just a consequence of eating too much protien.
The lead will protect me balls from 5G.
Good advice, thanks

Yet another harmless supplement to add to your list of doesn't contain what it says or contains things it doesn't say.
Does anyone know any "safe" brands? I skimmed the article and couldn't find any recommendations. I already use whey so that's the lower risk category but still
I wonder if they buy the raw material for cheaper because it could not be sold in most markets due to its lead content.
Most of the bad ones are "plant based". Maybe extracting the protein also concentrates any trace lead.
There's a section about this in the article. Plants take up lead from the soil they grow in (This phenomenon is actually well known and sometimes employed to decontaminate soil in brownfields; those plants aren't used for human consumption though obvs) However, the companies don't disclose where their raw goods are sourced from so it's impossible to know for sure.
Explains the rightwing pipeline better.
True no one other than right wing lunatics workout and consume protein shakes
I have no idea why that comment has so many upvotes. I’m with you; I honestly don’t understand the logic.
I'm pretty sure I didn't say that.
This isn't true gang.
No, but if you consume protein shakes enough then your mental capacity will decline, thus adding to the pipeline of dumbasses.
I feel bad I had to explain that to you.
Probably on purpose
