They grabbed a tourist off the street and detained her for eight hours while her daughter was left to fend for herself on the streets. NYC y'all better be starting some shit

Tourists should avoid the USA (not to blame the tourists in this story, of course)
- American citizens should be avoiding the USA at this point as well. No-one is safe.

  Do we know it was a pure tourist visit and they could choose the location? Many state departments are already flagging the US with a state instability warning if not no-go, so I'd assume she (or the husband) was here on business, or because there were circumstances that pushed them.
  To be fair, NYC is pretty blue, it's just the NYPD that has been for decades a threat to the people, especially nonwhites, with Bloomberg's mayorship taking much of the blame.
The Trump administration has set strict quotas for arresting anyone even suspected of being in the country illegally, with Stephen Miller ordering that 3,000 people be arrested every single day, or ICE officers will face consequences

- Quotas are supposed to be illegal for law enforcement, not that they care about rule of law, but should be another note for the second Nuremberg Trials.

Anyone who still doesn't see how similiar this is to 1930s Germany, is lying, a child or ignorant to the point where they their opinion should be ignored.
Nothing short of violent revolution will change anything in the states at this point. The courts are powerless, and the entire political system is rotten to the core.

- Nope. The rulings coming out of the Federal courts (more often than not from Trump appointed judges) are unambiguous and the executive branch is largely complying with them once a ruling is handed down.
  They are playing a game of legal brinkmanship in order to to try and circumvent the law (the whole dismiss-and-arrest thing happening at immigration courts - which are NOT full courthouses, btw), but don't think for one second the Judges and attorneys working on these cases aren't fully aware of what's going on.

Until the last three days, I've actually been fairly optimistic.
While slow, the courts had acted to curb Donald's worst abuses. The tariffs wreaked havoc, but we saw when the bond markets reacted that someone in his administration was able to make him see reason. (My own retirement has recovered its losses from February.) Elon Musk was finally being thrown out of the administration.
But here we are now, and this is genuinely scary stuff for absolutely everyone that isn't independently wealthy. The reaction of California and the courts will dictate how things proceed. This isn't the well-organized, institutionalized abuses of immigrants of Dubya, Obama and Biden. It's the heavy-handed, sloppy, careless and unmitigated cruelty of the Gestapo.
And, for me, I just can't get around the fact that this is probably happening because a meme hurt Donald's ego.
- Trump and Steven Miller escalated the situation because they needed to feel good about themselves after Elon fucked them both over. This is probably what they planned for the elections in 2026/28.
  
  I'm not going to blame the voters for the Democrats' decision to throw the election, personally. They knew Harris was unpopular with groups they needed to win swing states. They knew Biden was unpopular too. It was their decision to crown two weak candidates without a primary and state publicly and unequivocally that they wouldn't change anything.
  You can't look at your own record as president, knowing full well your actions and willful inaction have made people significantly poorer, and reasonably conclude that the status quo is an acceptable campaign strategy.

This seems like the kind of thing that's going to get a kidnapping cop shot, and they'll deserve that, but what happens after is a real wildcard.

Most fucked up part? Chile is the whitest South American country. There was an old statistic from the mid 2000s that put Chile at 95% white European heritage people.
