I feel like I'm the only one here who actually likes it when games I loved when I was younger become old/retro. I see it as a badge of honour, like them getting to enter the hall of fame.

Super Mario World isn't a bad game just because it's old, it's just as great now as it was in the 90s. Same with Sunshine. And it makes me happy knowing I grew up with these games - no amount of aging or growing old could take that away from me.

Also, given how Trump's been even more incoherent and irrational in this election compared to 2016's, I'd be surprised if he's still grounded enough in reality (or even alive) to seek more terms in 2028 - he's already in his 80s and doesn't live a healthy lifestyle; he has supercharged billionaire-only medicine, but there are only so many miracles that medicine can do.

I guess maybe the Republicans would try to keep him as a front for PR (like a puppet president) while hiding the fact that he's senile from the population, and governing from the shadows. Which I suppose is barely better than direct rule from Trump himself.

Now I'm curious: if Person A serves two full terms as US president, then Person B (from the same party) runs and chooses A as their vice-president, and then steps down, what would happen? Would A be unable to be picked as B's Vice President in first place, or would A simply be legally unable to be sworn in as President after B stepped down and the Speaker of the House gets the position instead?

I'm the same way (also have ADHD). I love Subnautica*'s underwater gameplay and alien moon aesthetic, but I can only really play it in Creative Mode since I really like building bases and exploring without worrying about resources and dying.

Given Dems' track record, I'm dreading 2028 is going to be JD Vance versus fucking RFK Jr. or Joe Manchin. At least the only silver lining out of THAT shitshow will be seeing the Democratic Party completely implode after completely alienating their voter base to become a carbon copy of the Republican Party (while Repub voters just keep voting R) and hopefully pave ground for an actual progressive party replace them, but that will hardly offset the horrors of 8 years of unrestrained fascism (assuming the left wins in 2032 🥲)

I'm not American or European, but my country likes to follow whatever America does and our far-right has in the past tried to get their help to stage a coup, so I'm worried about this as well - they couldn't get Biden's support, but they are buddies with Trump and he is more than happy to assist. I'm pretty sure my country is going to follow the US and throw itself off a cliff in two years, and I really hope I have an emergency escape hatch come 2026-2027...

I don't like the idea of claiming a whole group I disagree with is comprised of bots or paid agents trolling to create division, but at this point, the only plausible alternatives to that are either those people are having a severe martyr complex, or just are so overly privileged that they are divorcing themselves from reality and don't/can't comprehend the consequences of what they're advocating, essentially treating this whole thing like a sports game.

Or maybe both, and are trying to throw trans people, black people, women, etc. under the bus to fuel their martyr complex in their stead.

I mostly lurk and prefer to not get involved in politics, but GOOD GOD I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS THIS WAY. It's so exhausting.

What sucks is that voting isn't swearing a blood oath that turns you into a slave of neoliberalism and prevents you from doing direct action: you can do both. Voting isn't going to save Palestinians (and it's a bitter pill to swallow, I know), but it's going to save lots of other vulnerable minorities (who never really asked to be born in the imperial core!), and still provide breathing room for direct action that can help Palestine.

Like... even if you don't care about the safety of trans people, pragmatically speaking it's immensely easier to organize as leftists in a neoliberal regime than it is in a fascist regime. Just look at what happened to the KPD when they proclaimed "first Hitler, then it's our turn". (Yes, the SPD backstabbed them during Weimar - RIP Rosa Luxemburg - but that pales to the Nazis basically rounding them all up and sending them to the gas chambers!) I don't want history to repeat. Please don't let it repeat.
