Pre-inspection rental application completed. I'm really missing the days when you would go to the real estate agent, grab the keys for anything you were interested in to go and have a look, and if you liked it you just showed some basic id & proof of income and the place was yours.
Yup! Many less hoops to jump through to get the mortgage than deal with a new rental app. Seems they want damn dna samples now, and it's all in highly insecure third party databases.
Yeah, some you have to apply for and be accepted onto a shortlist before you get to inspect it. This one sends you the link for the application at the same time as the registration to inspect, I'm not actually sure if you have to do the application first but I figure it can't hurt.
Ol' boy finally found the piccys from a school trip we did to nepal back in 1999 (I was yr 9 at the time). 200 kids, bunch of teachers, 4 docs who were parents of kids (and went for free lol). And a fuckton of risk, they stopped the trip a year after that as a few kids ran into health troubles. Cheap as shit due to bulk kids.
Was before digital cams so pretty much only the adults had proper cameras. ol' boy had a nice one and got heaps of shots. They're all on slides and negatives.
Looks awful for now until I get them properly imaged but fuck me the memories.
Over easter doing a slide show on an old school slide projector from the 70's that still works down the bellarine w/ the fam. Gonna be lit lol.
I was unsuccessful in my rental application. โน๏ธ
I've booked an inspection of another one which looks ok, but the photos on the website are the same photos it was sold with 7 years ago.
There is another maybe property which looks a bit too good for the price and has been listed for a while, so I am a bit sus about that one. It also has a patch of fake grass in bad condition and a number of very large yuccas.
It might just be location. I'm learning the "poor" areas just by comparing rental prices. But I'd personally rather have an older house with a bit of yard space in a run down area than one of the cookie-cutter grey townhouses that comprise about 80% of the market. They are just not my style.
Parma for dinner. Tomorrow nights probs loaded potato wedges that I stole the idea from Aldi.
need to get back into miss match meals to use whats in the freezer.
I didn't realise I had the same bug as the rest of the family until I finished my coffee in the office. I managed to get home alright without any problems. Another plus to the location of this place, the last thing you'd want is an hour long train trip after realising you're sick
Spent most of today learning how to navigate my new org's SharePoint structure. Nearly 4 years in the same place and shit was embedded in my memory and almost automatic.
I feel like an infant learning how to crawl again.
I reckon a chef (who also cleans the kitchen once they're done for the day). Delicious meals prepared for me and time saved cooking / cleaning up afterwards would transform my life.
A cleaner, absolutely hands down. Especially the bathroom. Everything else I can somehow handle but the #1 very first kind of help I would get if I had money is a cleaner. Then maybe an admin person (even just to make phone calls, I hate phone calls). Then maaaaybe a cook but I would be very very picky about what they make and how.
The Brian Cox series on ABC has a bunch of interesting stuff about this. I think one of Jupiter's moon's moons isn't tidally locked to the moon itself, but another point in space of it's elliptical movement.
Then you can look up Alpha Centuri and the suns and planets that orbit each other
Our moon is tidally locked with us, so it always shows us the same side, but it moves through the sky because Earth isnโt tidally locked with it.
For the non nerds but mildly curious this means that the moon spins at the same time that earth moves and that's the reason we don't see the dark side of the moon.
Just did another botched job of reversing into a parking space. I'm really stuffing up the initial angle. I'm sure I'll get better eventually, but at the moment it is pretty nerve wracking.
Especially with a new car, so terrifying to scrape it. And of course, worried about hitting someone elseโs car! My current car is a bit bigger than previous one, and the first month I had it I wasnโt great at parking it, often had to readjust multiple times, even with cameras and sensors. Got sick of it so then I went to a semi empty parking area and reverse parked about 10 times paying attention to how best to line up and when to turn and after that I was ok. Probably looked weird to anyone who saw but I needed to do it.
Forgot to take the compost bin down last night, woke up to enterprising felines flinging lamb chop bones to the floor. The mishcat is untethered and her craves know no bounds
Old fart comment: I used to know to the minute how long it took to print an essay and bolt to the faculty office before they cleared the essay drop box.
Yup, stovetop moka pot, one full chamber of water is enough for one and a half mugs worth.
I usually serve it in a bigger mug.
I use a long armed coffee scoop, 1 and a half coffee grinds usually is enough to keep me awake and also send me into a coffee high so Iโve been experimenting with using less coffee so that it wonโt keep me awake and be as strong.
Nothing wrong with my phone, but i'm already weighing up if the iphone becomes a 2000 dollar phone do I still need one?
And if not, do I still need a flagship? Or can I get away with a Pixel a, Galaxy FE or Nothing a. Technically my current non pro iphone isnt a flagship.
Great googly moogly I've solved the kodi conundrum
Issue: Kodi has Very Specific Naming Conventions. So do I . We do not share these conventions. I refuse to bow to the machine.
Solution: Symlinks
Issue: I have a remote fileserver, you cannot UNC hard symlinks
Solution:Kodi does fine with soft symlinks
Issue: Symlinks in windows are very different to linux, where they're more like shortcuts as windows has them hard coded to the kernel. Every single machine running kodi - currently two, lounge and bedroom, possibly a third with the brewery - will need its own symbolic link of every. single. file. on my file server named correct in order to scrape them and show them. My fileserver has 12tb on it.
Solution: Script written that will ask for a share name in UNC, then drill down every subdirectory and replicate the whole tree symlink form on local machine in directory of choice.
Issue: Still not in kodi naming convention
Solution: filebot portable, which is free. Rename symlinks to match TVDB. Original files untouched.
Issue: faults will occur if source files are moved or renamed
Solution: I just wrote another friggin' script that will go through every single symlink and subdirectory and list all that do not resolve in a txt file called broken_links.txt. Run that once a month or so and update as required and I'm dancing.
Then it's just upkeep with new symlinks as files/folders added and double checking it scrapes ok.
