My company users first letter of the name and the full surname. I thought it was odd when I saw Gina.Ross@... Until I realized.

It's just an invitation to use the Unix finger utility to find user info on them. Like a shortcut to a profile.

I have always made a .plan file on every unix-like system I have been on. Just in case I get fingered. Heck, even my at home single user devices have a .plan. Just to give the hackers a treat.

Is this a US university? I'd imagine this Megan Finger here could sue for millions of punitive damages for getting such a username.

I don't understand why it's always in the millions. How the hell would this username account for millions in damage?
- It isn't. People just like to bring up the 2 or 3 most extreme examples from a country of a third of a billion people and pretend that's a normal, everyday occurrence. You'd think that people would realize that none of us have ever actually met anyone that ever successfully sued anyone for millions of dollars and extrapolate, but they'd rather be mad at some imaginary problem in a way that conveniently makes it more difficult to use the legal system to defend ourselves from rich people if we "fix" it.
I've heard you guys hate puns, but dedicating a whole lawsuit type to them is a bit over the edge, IMO...
