I woke up naked on a beach, under a canoe. Haven't really drank much tequila since.
In the aisle of a truck stop convenience store between magazine racks. Our tour bus had broken down again. It was in some midwestern town, can't even remember the state, as this was in the late 80s. Was reading magazines on the floor to kill time and fell asleep. Fortunately the clerk didn't care.
Under an open sky on Antarctica
I wouldn't say that's weird, that's just extremely cool. What was it like?
It was unbelievable cool, but not in a temperature way. It was a bit chilly but not that bad since it was summer. That also means no sundown so it was just a bit less light. We dug a hole in the snow to keep from the wind and with some thick sleeping bags in a waterproof bag it was quite comfy and warm.
You are very far from any real civilization (no cellphone or anything) and that is completely refreshing. You just lay there listening to remote avalanches and the ocean, haven't slept as good as there. Untill after a short night I woke up from snow drifting into my nose and it was time to go before the weather changed.
Afterwards we took a swim in 4°C ocean water.. That also sure was something :)
Edit: I've written a small journal with some pictures on my blog if you're interested..
Pretty chill and cool I imagine
I woke up in a bathtub once. The specifics are missing, but I remember someone suggested playing beer pong with tequila instead.
A cemetery, a dried river bed and the basement of a derelict school. All backpacking in eastern Europe.
locked in the back of a uhaul, using a loaf of bread as a pillow. when the sun rose the tiny airhole in the wall became a camera obscura and i watched the sunrise uprise down while waiting for someone to unlock the truck.
A closed hentai booth
On a military style folding bed, without a blanket and a gas mask on.
(I was renovating my current apartment, it was 4 o'clock in the morning and there were too many particles in the air to breathe without a filter.)
South Dakota
Camping when a herd of very large deer passed through to wave us up after seeing bear tracks several miles back.
Also back in high school, the marching band bus on longer trips.
Back of my car in the crescent city Walmart parking lot after a Yosemite trip.
On the floor of a closet in a cheap hotel. With the closet door closed.
Calabar, Nigeria
What's weird about it?
Most of it. Beautiful scenery, though. And friendly people.
30,000 feet off the ground.
A holding cell, waiting to be processed is boring as hell. I'd highly recommend learning to sleep in the recovery position because even a solid steel bench can be comfortable if you do.
Such a cool link. Thanks for sharing.
Lucky, the floor in mine was even smaller than the bench
Awesome link. Thank you for sharing
