The most important and serious one not on the list is that democracy no longer exists in the US. I would be very surprised if people are allowed to vote in 2026.
He will be a dictator day one (actual quote), and dictators don't typically stop dictating once they feel the power.
I honestly think he's going to be worse than Hitler. A lot can change over the next 10 years.
If you think any or all of these is going to finally get a Trump supporter to lose faith, then you failed to learn the lesson that 2016 should've taught you, and yesterday should've reminded you of - they will never lose faith. He could tell them to literally kill their own kids and they'd just say "Oh, like what God told Abraham! I'll get right on it, my Lord!"
As each of these things comes to pass, as I ride this flaming dirigible into the hard earth rushing up at us, at the very least I'm going to spend that time telling the magas in my life that this is their fucking fault at every available opportunity.
None of these things will change the minds of the people who support Trump. Humans, sadly, have an aversion to anything that threatens their beliefs. We have a law that says a convicted felon can't vote in an election, and yet, no law to prevent that same felon from running for, and winning political office. The founding fathers, likely, never imagined a convicted felon would run for office, and even moreso that the people of this county would vote for him.
Yeah I would say active shunning is an understandable way to go about this. We tried educating people to not guzzle the kool-aid, they clearly personally desired to do it anyways.
The deportation is gonna come first. Military aid is America's bread an butter. Shutting down of news outlets will be "official acts". Democrats imprisoned will be an "official act"
He's caught in a catch-22 with that idea; if he uses his expanded powers he may well spark another civil war, but if he doesn't, we face possible (perhaps even likely) conversion to a fascist dictatorship. I'd honestly prefer breaking up the country to the alternative.
I'd honestly prefer breaking up the country to the alternative.
One of the problems with that is that there isn't a geographical divide like the last time (north vs. south). Unfortunately, I live in a red area of California. Are we going to build a wall around our county? The major city in our county is a bit more liberal. How would that work?
Agreed, there's no easy geographical divide, making this all the more messy. I'd guess that such a partition would result in three countries (Northeast, South&Central, and West), but it would likely take a very bloody war first. I wish I knew how we could do it sanely. It's a pipe dream, I know, but one that I'd like to believe is possible.
No, but I think a more likely scenario is that he simply abandons Ukraine. I don't think he cares about it either way, so why would he send any troops? He'll just ignore what is happening there and that's it.
The deal will be to disassemble BRICS and come back to the table of hegemony. All for the low low price of a little piece of land in Europe. And Trump will come out looking like a hero to all business interests because they get to suck on the teat of Eastern money once again.
I think the UN would get very upset about it though. I'm sure he'll try but I really can't see it working the way he thinks it will it's not like the rest of the world is just going to stand by and allow the US to start dictating global policy.
New protection for discrimination on 1st amendment grounds for hiring/business
NOAA collapse (more like privatization)
Deportations
Democrat imprisonments
Removal of carbon output caps.
Also missing, he is going to dismiss all the court cases against himself, and use the military to lock up anyone who filed or testified against him.
Oh and Joe Biden is going to sit on his thumbs for the next 2 months instead of taking the wrapper off those new tyrant powers and drone-striking his ass.
My neighbors are all republicans. Nothing will make them go quiet. Leadership could bus them and their children into a giant municipal sausage grinder and they would be babbling happily about winning right up until they died.
I was going to actually pick one but I honestly don't think any of these are beyond the pale for his followers. And while he is an idiot, he has plenty of not stupid people around him that will ensure these don't happen all at once or at some critical moment - we are going to be frogs boiling. People are going to have to worry about getting food on the table and won't be able to fight back.
they won't ever see any of it even if it directly affects them. Nothing penetrates their bubble without getting warped to fit their world view. All they can latch onto is fear and hate.
If his plan is to fire tens of thousands of civil servants, district justices, etc and place his own loyalists into office, then there is a very real chance he can legally intimidate the Democrats into passing constitutional amendments.
What's stopping him from doing a Nayib Bukele, calling a state of emergency, mobilising the armed forces and using them to coerce the House and Senate into passing laws?
