  • I love the name Pabu, what does it mean?

  • I can also see some people being opposed to them spending the donation money on ads, since they'd be giving money to companies that may be in opposition to what we're doing here (or ideological reasons around the advertising industry in general).

Maybe if there was a separate pool of donations specifically for advertising, then people who want to support that can donate to it? Those who don't can still donate to the projects themselves

  • Thanks!

I think it's still helpful for people that primarily use the subscribed feed, in case they are subscribed to !linux@lemmy.ml, but not !privacy@lemmy.ml

  • It's not currently there, but it's on our list of things to look into when we revisit our donation options.

Recently another user checked in about Librepay, and I asked for more thoughts. If you have any additional points, we'd appreciate them! I'll copy them into our notes alongside the previous comments

  • The community looks cool! Subscribed

There were two parts to it. One was marking the account as a 'bot' account. Bots are fine, a lot of people use them, but it can be helpful to mark it in the user settings. Various apps will see that to format the post better, among other things. If you log in with the bot account and go to settings, you will find a checkbox.

The other part was asking about the instance, and it's more just curiosity. I'd recommend taking a quick look at this guide here: https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/lemmy/for-users/detailed-overview

In your case, the instance is where you made an account (lemmings.world) is different from where you made the community (lemmy.world). Which is a fine thing to do, but they were wondering if there was any reason for that. Most people make communities on the same instance out of convenience

  • Wow that looks amazing! Would love the recipe or any tips that you have for making it

  • only proprietary, ad-infested client

There are a handful of them, Sync and Boost have ads / ad-free versions and Connect was closed but without ads from what I remember. I'm not familiar with the rest of the closed source ones

I keep Voyager installed as the FOSS alternative, and then the rest I add and remove every now and then to try out.

Boost and Sync are popular because people coming from Reddit have used them for years, and are familiar with the interface / dev. If it helps them get familiar with the fediverse then I'm all for it

  • I would love that, thank you so much for offering! I've always seen AI as a placeholder at most, and I'm hoping over time people will replace the images everywhere that I've used them.

maybe my original take on the image you used for this post or something else that you prefer.

    Up to you 😊

  • They could totally prioritize more healthy options, they go through their inventory fast enough for it to not be a problem finding fresh groceries

That said, the other points are part of why Costco's model works. They have a limited number of items at a time, priced much lower than other similar stores, and they have a fixed max profit that they allow themselves to make on them. The kirkland branded stuff is intended to be as good as the other brands in quality, and all the items are supposedly selected to be "good"

So people show up often to see what new items they're currently carrying and grab the things that they need. For a lot of people, the membership is worth it. Then they might go to other stores for any remaining items they couldn't find at Costco

Everything there is such a disorganized mess. Most of the aisles are incoherent.

Agreed. There's a general pattern to some of it, but I usually wander through most of the aisles as I work my way through

  • But what is that book that she is swearing on?

  • Yes good call, I just edited them in. How does that look?

  • It might be a one night event this time, since it's lunar eclipse related.

For me, the cool thing was watching the moon slowly get consumed. I'm looking forward to seeing some high quality time lapses

  • I see it as a launching point/ inspiration, like seeing what a friend comes up with and then trying something better yourself

  • There's the good-karma-kit, which is a Docker compose bundle of some popular projects: https://github.com/ArchiveBox/good-karma-kit

It could act as a list to go off of, if you don't want to host all of them. The link has more info on each, as well as which ones are non-profit / for-profit
