I mean, in all of those circumstances I just hold my breath. I'm certainly not wanting to breath in a bad smell through my mouth.
But if the question is can I elect to breath through my mouth without pinching my nose, the answer is yes. I wouldn't describe it as "shutting my nose," though, so maybe we're not talking about the same thing.
Never felt any impetus to drink, and I have a personal aversion to recreational drugs.
Without thinking too hard about it, I probably get the most joy from learning stuff, especially when it's within a topic of interest and has any level of application to my interests or skills. Bonus points when I make the connection myself.
I see other comments mentioning ADHD, so I'll add that I have a diagnosis for it as well.
Good question, though. It's been a while since I asked myself this, and I'm overdue for a reassessment. Thanks.
I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with being proud of impersonal achievements. If one of your parents did something considered pretty great, I think it's generally fine to be proud of it, even though you had no agency in being born to them.
As with anything, though, it's very possible to take it to the extreme. If an achievement or value becomes your entire personality and you begin to actively disparage others on the basis of not-being-that, as you said, that's when I call it one of the bad "-isms."
I see nationalism as a range within that of patriotism, but starting at that extremist point.
Guess who becomes much easier to brainwash and control when the kids of this generation don't have access to unfederated information and educational outlets?
I wanted to make an ironic, exaggerated comment here, but irony doesn't really work when it is 100% in line with what these people would actually say.
Change is so slow because this country has managed to form and propogate such a thoroughly oppressive system, that to call it out is to only reinforce what the people have been taught since day one.
These "freedom people" want their privilege so bad that they are willing to keep a monarch/oligarch in office who will perpetuate an oppressive system under the guise of ignorance.
Pride, like most emotions or feelings, exists on a range. You can be proud of all of these things, including your achievements; it's the degree to which you carry that pride that determines the "douchebaggery," don't you think?
The sports team, I would say, probably has the lowest "douchebaggery threshold," as the spectator is so far removed from the team—especially for professional teams—whereas the others carry more involvement and/or stake for its community.
I've recently been trying to train myself to lucid dream frequently. The first thing anyone will tell you is to keep a dream journal, and holy shit does it help. Started journaling them on the 2nd of January, and even just a week later I started having very vivid dreams every night. All senses included; and as of a couple days ago, fairly critical thinking (mental math). I haven't managed to have a "lucid dream" yet, but I'll get there.
For the sake of completeness, a lucid dream is a dream in which you've become aware that you are dreaming. Whether you can control the dream or feel that it's vivid is a separate concern.
I've absolutely done it before because I'm weird. Entering 1:90 (on my Kenmore microwave) ticks down 1:89... 1:88... etc. until it hits 1:00 at which point it will continue as normal to 0:59.
1:60 behaves similarly.
I have a feeling the "add 30 seconds" button will correct it to proper time format, but I'll test it for science.
My high school had a pretty big exchange program (up until COVID) mainly from China, Vietnam, and Spain, and I hung out with them all the time after school, and some of them even more 😅. Very pleasant experience getting to know about them and where they came from, and it was always super fun and interesting to see how they would react or approach American customs or even that of the other exchange students.
The Legend of Korra spoilers:
It's been a while, and I've lost some of my steam over this. But yeah, that's the only one I've got the energy to type out right now.
