‘Coyote VS Acme’ is now expected to be shelved and deleted forever. WB wanted $75M - $80M for the film and rejected offers from Netflix, Amazon & Paramount, refusing to let them counter-offer.

Unbelievable that there is incentive to do a tax write off for 10's of millions. When I make investments that don't pan out, I sure as hell don't get paid out.
- In my opinion a tax write off should automatically make it public domain.
  
  That seems entirely fair. Proper even… if they get the write off there should be a durable record of this investment that was so poor as to require dramatic remedy.
  People could download it from the library of congress and learn how to not make such poor decisions in the future ;-)

- You too can commit continuous tax evasion if you have millions/billions of capital to move around, and teams of lawyers and accountants to do it all nice and legal like.
- In both Canada and US, you can write off investment losses that could be used against investment gains. If you’re Canadian or American, you have the same write off capability as they do.
  
  If only I had the generational wealth to make that initial investment... damn my poor pre-life decisions!
Oh, good, Warner Bros. is erasing more art that people slaved over from existence because its more financially convenient that way.
The only hope is a leak of the final cut to find its way to the pirates. Otherwise it will be deleted from existence.

At this point, the executive leadership needs to see the film destroyed purely to save face.
It’s just the kind of petty move I’d expect from WBD’s current leadership.
- Yes. I forget where I heard it recently (some podcast) but by shelving the movie, they're ensuring that it doesn't become a success at some other studio which would make them look foolish for passing on it. This is why many movies will never exist.
So it's obviously a tax scheme then. Rejecting other offers means they never wanted it to be made
- The offers will be used as evidence of the "value" of the write off when they submit the paperwork to the irs. Just like writing off a car, you have to submit the assessed value. What better way to get an assessed value than to shop the movie around with no intention of selling?
Selling to Netflix? Psssh. The real money is in is releasing films in cardboard-cased DVDs at truck stops and dollar stores.
What are the chances it's not actually done & being used as a tax scam?
