Also people used to fear of being shamed and had to make effort to make themselves not the idiot. With the internet, the idiots are encouraged to be proud to be an idiot.
And when you met the village idiot, they came across as shifty or drunk or something. There's a big difference between being told 9/11 conspiracy theories by someone missing half their teeth in a bar and being told 9/11 conspiracy theories by a Facebook user using auto correct even if it's the same person.
Thank you! That's what I'm saying for years. Villages, seemingly, had that one idiot screaming from the market place. Turns out not only has it been more than one village idiot, they're connecting and screaming louder than ever before.
