I just finished a rewatch of FMA:B and totally forgot that at the end, Ed sincerely talks with Truth about how being "just a human" isn't a big deal, because even with alchemy, he couldn't save a little girl. What happened to Nina was basically a seminal moment in Ed and Al's life that drove them to change into who they became. I oscillate between sadness and horror about the whole ordeal. Oh, also, good meme.

They're characters from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist. I won't get into it because it's quite gross but the girl's father was working on "chimera" research, and wasn't too shy about who was the research subject.
It's an incredibly disturbing part of the anime, and the joke here is about how messed up it is.

To keep the tears away, I will take this image as canon that they willingly did a fusion dance and took down Frieza.
Side note: it has been forever since I have watched DBZ so I forget who they fought when they fused. Feel free to correct me in the replies.
Uhhh not an expert but I'll try to offer the correction you asked for. Fusion wasn't a thing until after frieza, probably buu? I think it was buu.
