On a related note, Dave Barry wrote in his definitive work on Japan (this is paraphrased):
The problem with being an American person in Japan is that everything is nondescript and written in Japanese. So you're never quite sure if the door you are about to enter is marked "restaurant," or "enter here for express vasectomy service."
I lived in Japan as an American for 6 years. There were definitely times I went to enter a place and had the employees politely chuckle while handwaving/headshaking "no". Sometimes I figured out what my error was, but there are many where I'm not sure why I was ushered out the door.
My parent sent me to a southern Baptist Christian private school. Complete with the Abeka book system, and everything. I even took bible for a credit one year. Since I already have that “high quality Christian education”. Can I please just have some hot and delicious food.
Also, as a side note. We were known as “The rebels” our mascot was a confederate soldier. Our gym with the basketball court had confederate flags painted on the walls 2 stories high.
Ah yes. The Abeca curriculum. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Literally designed to create white Christian nationalists that love guns, supply side white Jesus, Ummarica, and hate intellectuals, science, and evidence-based history. EDIT: I forgot it’s also designed to enforce evangelical Christian gender roles and teach that anything except straight cis people aren’t real humans.
Ahhh I see you know your Christian nationalism well. Believe it or not. Abeka was one of their selling points. When your young and live in a city that is majority African American people. You go to school and think it’s weird that in a school that’s K-12 there only 2 black people.
It wasn’t until I got out of school and started making my own friends that I realized just how heinous that experience had been. You start to realize that all of the people you have been around are horrible bigots (family included). From there of course the natural evolution is to make your own family. Which is where I am now.
I find both to be highly suspect and I'm going to turn around and walk away.
Gluttony is a sin right?... Left it is, then.
I wonder what kind of food they have. I mean, I'm going that way regardless, but I still wonder.
Which way, Western man?
I'll take the obvious subway sign for 800.
The hardest choices require the strongest wills
all im saying is im hungry
Gimme hot, fresh, high-quality, delicious christian food education.
High quality education and Christian education are not possible to have at the same time.
You mean teaching that the earth is 6000 years old is not "high quality education"? Heresy!
Surprisingly untrue. Catholic schools in my experience often have excellent curriculums.
Except when it comes to anything to do with science or philosophy or psychology or history or biology
But who needs that when instead you can read a magic book.
There are a few Catholic schools close to my house; far superior than the public schools of even the suburbs around here. (However, our city public schools are a joke.)
The idea that they don't teach evolution, etc. is an extremist view that probably mixes the reality of a specific US region with the crap they heard off the media.
