  • they are working really hard to weasel their way into total mass surveillance where literally everything you do online is known to the government.

very handy to stamp out dissent if you crimialize free speech and then also force everyone to be deanonymized

they really hate that citizens can just criticize them freely

  • there's only a very small fraction of communes that actually work and they need very specific people. There's one I can think of that sells beaded hammocks or something that has actually been successful long term. But who knows that might just be because of a few central figures holding everything together.

it's more reasonable to reconstruct an old timey village vibe or a family/clan focused community.

personally a commune sounds like my own personal hell. I like privacy and people minding their own business. I wouldn't mind being surrounded by my close friends though. even then I would probably kill them after half a year if I had to see them every day.

  • I use it for coding at work, to replace google privately (to find sources), to look up random trivia, to find/compare products ( looking for slippers on Amazon) to spellcheck and to bounce ideas off of (write a report on how AI resembles demonology).

People really underestimate how productive it can be with the right workflows (Deep Research, Claude Code)

  • Mild Curses @piefed.social

Mild Curse: Anytime I beatbox badly, you hear it no matter where you are.

  • they're not doing it to get you to turn it back on, but your mom who you turned it off for. drives me mad how often I have to redisable privacy nightmares everytime my mom asks me to help her with her phone.

  • the only thing that can really stop it IMO is mainstreaming decentralized social media and messaging services.

You'd need to effectively replace Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Whatsapp etc.. The only thing that totally keeps us from 1984 is that all these platforms for now have decided to be relatively free and impartial (compared to how bad it could be). But that could change at any time if the powers that be decide to on a whim. They could completely ban all privacy, pacificsm or any kind of political opposition tomorrow.

  • I mean no glass on the oven door is a little bit inconvenient and there is no visible range hood (you can have them built into the range itself), othewise there is nothing wrong with it. cleaning a gas stove is more work, but some people swear by gas. the painting can be a glass print if you really want it. I don't understand why this qualifies as a meme
