Some outlets recalibrate coverage as they navigate threats of president-elect and interests faced by corporate owners
Summary
MSNBC, CNN, and major newspapers like The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times are softening their once critical stances, citing fear of retribution, business pressures, and audience polarization.
This shift has drawn backlash, with critics warning that neutrality risks undermining journalistic integrity in the face of Trump’s autocratic tendencies.
Meanwhile, Fox News is thriving, reaching record ratings.
As the media faces dwindling resources and public trust, experts argue it must choose between challenging authoritarianism or losing credibility entirely.
For all the "we shouldn't give up before we've started to fight" that we got from the media after Bezos made clear he was bending the knee before the election, the media sure as shit wants to give up before fighting.
“Cowards who sanewashed him at every turn taking the cowards’ way out by not reporting true things in hopes to curry favor with the people who will hate them regardless.”
Just a simple observation on how Jeff bezos sold whatever he may have claimed to be a soul and whatever was left of any semblance of democracy to appease the god-king-emperor.
The media is not journalism, there is no journalism anymore. It is all corporate entertainment and propaganda. These news outlets don't report "news" they report the narrative their billionaire owners want to be reported. It's been that way since they got Ronny's FCC to repeal the Fairness Doctrine. These fuckers don't make money if we are at peace, they don't make money when the economy is good they don't make money unless the story bleeds. They don't give a fuck if Trump won or lost or how old Biden is, all they care about is how they will make the most money they can.
Trump is just the next evolution, we have seen it before with people like P.T. Barnum.
Oh so you think it will get better? 😋
I'm pretty sure China doesn't have the amount of misinformation Americans are exposed to.
Chinese misinformation is much more focused, and not all over the place, not even Chinese propaganda or people likens Xi to a God reborn, as Christians do with Trump.
The misinformation is more like North Korea. With the difference that in USA the real information is also available. Which is why only about half the US population fall for it, where in North Korea it's probably 80-90%
The American media have failed completely, normalizing Trump and normalizing crazy like denial of scientific facts and normalizing malignant narcissism.
How could for-profit media ever survive this? They're incentivised to move with the flow in order to maintain profit whether or not this flow leads in the direction of truth or democracy. I have a feeling that for-profit media isn't able to to fulfill the role of media required for a working democracy.
They could pivot to actually covering the news without carrying water for fascists, or they could take the election results to mean people want them to carry more water for fascists. Gee, I wonder which one they'll choose... 🤔
Trump won by basically uninformed voters and media manipulation.
There's a huge number of Trump voters who don't even like him but are fed up with the identity politics and wokeism on the far-left and voting for Trump was just a way to get back at these people.
