The mods of the Apple subreddit framed it as if they were making some great sacrifice by choosing to reopen the subreddit and remain in control. Obviously, the mods that are claiming this are full of shit, it's more about the authority than it is giving a shit about a subreddit.
Man, I just checked the thread on /r/technology to see what people were saying. Everyone is shit talking mods - it's a complete sea change since last time I was on. Weird.
Replacing mods is a fun idea. But where do you get replacement mods from? Already before the whole debacle most subreddits had more or less intrusive "We are looking for new mods" statements all around their sub. One sub I'm in has a bot that comments on every post that they are urgently looking for mods.
And that was before Reddit started a war with the mods.
For those who still have a reddit account, I took the liberty to remind u/spez that he, too, wasn't democratically elected, so I created a referendum post on whether he should remain in his position as a CEO. Maybe give this an upvote if you want to.
If they did this normally instead of the garbage sub request system then honestly their site might be a little fucking better, but doing it just now is blatant and gross
If I was disney/apple/amazon/whatever big corp now it would be the time to put my own people in charge of popular subreddits and astroturf my way through hell
Horrible move but it looks like a lot of subs are going to roll over and take it - I guess this was always the plan and that reddit figures its better to move quickly to prevent protests taking hold.
Hoping more will break away and move here instead but not expecting a mass exodus.
I closed my twitter last year because Elon is a scumbag, I'll happily do the same on reddit.
Honestly, yes. They are stopping moderation, HOWEVER we closed down the subreddit entirely. Thus the sub should be considered non existent. Wouldn't that be some evidence to bring down hell on reddit?
Not surprising, but there are still many ways it can go, even forcing them open may not do anything if the community remains angry, and he’s doing a grate job of trying to put the fire out with a fuel tanker.
Found a script (extension; Nuke Reddit History), to erase my comment history on reddit. Has to be run multiple times if you have a lot of comments. (apparently it was removed from firefox and chrome, so i'm using Edge... but hey, if it gets the job done...
i think it can do posts too, but am not at that stage yet. First, comments. as deleting a post doesn't erase the comments you typed there.
Ok but invite who? Any new moderators can see how you treat the current ones. Who the fuck is lining up to get treated like shit to moderate a major website for FREE?
