Revival with loving attention to the established continuity and tone of SG-1? Yes, please.
Reboot? Get bent.
I very much understand this.... but... we have to realise that starting up from the point of when Universe started or a bit later than it would mean that everything that was so fun to discover in the 10 seasons of SG-1 and 5 seasons of Atlantis, would be already "old knowledge" in the canon.
A lot of the fun in SG was imo the joy of discovery. New worlds, new tech, new aliens, new science. How does the gate really work, who built it, etc.
I think we have to accept that not-rebooting the franchise would sort of direct the attention away from all the gate things and would have to discover something new. Like one-upping the stakes. And if they do that, then there'd also need to be some sort of resolution for Universe, too.
I hope thats what they do, but from an objective writing point, I think the reboot is more likely.
Otherwise it'd be constant exposition dumping, since the show probably won't be aimed at the people who know every bit of Stargate as well as their own pants. Ofc this isn't too hard to achieve in universe, just have someone come in as a new guy to the program, like in Atlantis with Sheppard and whatnot.
I'm just saying, I want to watch the new show in any case, so I'm mentally preparing for it to be a reboot. I'm hoping it will be some sort of soft-ish reboot so it might get to keep at least some of the original things and people. And that they'd incorporate that into the sometimes slightly meta writing, like the famous quip "O'Neill. Two L's!"
Anyway my point is that I very much hope that your options aren't completely mutually exclusive.
Exactly. As long as it sticks to canon I'm 100% on board.
I'm feeling like the second meme. Fallout is the first show I've seen made by Amazon-owned MGM.
That is the crispiest open the gate template I’ve ever seen.
At first O thought you were being sarcastic, because I'm on mobile and it was resized and looked fuzzy. I opened it though, and man were you right, that is a crispy template.
Honestly I'm enjoying the fuck outta fallout so I'll give it a chance
Idk. The big difference for me is I could watch those other shows without ads.
The expanse wasn’t that bad? Are you high? They canceled the series with like three books left in the story. I pity anyone who only knows the story from the series and not the books.
As a huge fan of the books before the show was made... Wot?
They had a pretty faithful adaptation of the show. Even character changes were acceptable. They even had the writers of the books writing and producing so like...
What was wrong with the shows again? They cancelled it at a perfect breaking point where the main characters would have aged 50 years? That's what we don't like?
The have books!! I am gonna be loading them on my ereader today.
I envy you, Bradward. The story is amazing especially the story after where the show ends it.
Shit I thought they had made it into Persepolis Rising during the show run, but now that you mention it they barely got out of Nemesis Games.
But the wheel of time show is a trainwreck
I just want some sort of SciFi that doesn't take itself too seriously all the time and isn't dark and broody.
You can get a bit dark, like I enjoyed Stargate Universe, that was a nice mix of dark story telling that still had fun.
I want to have fun and escape the world in SciFi shows, not be reminded of it.
Just to be sure, you have seen The Orville, haven't you?
Yeah loved that, it was exactly what I wanted new star trek to be, just not sure if we're gonna get more of it.
Out of interest, have you ever watched Red Dwarf.
It's very British, and shows its age a little nowadays, but to me it's still the gold standard for sci-fi comedy.
