Connect for Lemmy App

I'm trying to add a word to my filter. Let's say it's "orange". I type "o", it collapses my keyboard, says saved settings. I type "r", same thing. I takes forever to type in a word. Can it update after I type more or hit enter or save settings?

At least, that seems to be the case. I've seen several times now that it doesn't autofill, and fiddling with the URL has kicked it into life. Today I realised that it appears to only work if the URL ends in a slash.

In a passing comment someone said that lemmy.zip blocked hexbear by default. I checked in connect and didn't see it blocked. I checked on the web and it was blocked. Connect didn't know. I'd expect it to know.

Switched from lemm.ee to lemmy.zip. My old usernames were still in he profile switching section. I tried to switch to the old ones to remove them. The app just circled for several minutes. I force closed it and reopened it. It gives an error about unable to contact the server but at least gives me a menu. I removed the dead servers username.

So, not critical but weird.

I've used connect for a few years now, and was a lemm.ee user until they shut down at the end of June. I switched to lemmy.zip, and now when sharing pictures on Android (S24 Ultra) it won't actually share any media, it just shows the words image_proxy in the share dialog but there's no actual media to share.

Profile screen only loads initially and refuses to update until app is restarted

steps to recreate

• Load Profile screen (important, don't skip step)
• Find a thread elsewhere on lemmy
• add comment to that thread
• return to Profile screen
• scroll up to refresh

Expected Behaviour

comment on thread should be visible in profile screen after refresh (or should auto refresh on returning to the Profile screen)

Current behaviour

I have to kill the app completely and reload it to update the Profile screen

Not sure when this broke, but I'm no longer seeing the preview images when a post is a link to a news article.

It's just showing the 🔗 image with the domain under it.

Edit: Clearing cache doesn't help. Feddit.uk had a update a few days ago, so I'm wondering if that's caused this, although not sure why it would have?

Go to a thread with more than a screenful of comments. Collapse some comments. Scroll away and back. Comments no longer collapsed.

I have no plans to move from Lemmy any time soon, but I am curious if PieFed integration was being considered.

It would probably make more sense to fork Connect but a "multi-client" would be neat.

I updated to the latest version being on beta channel and some comments in threads look like having 125% size of letters compared to others. Idk if that's some option in settings (I've not found one) and I don't see some systematic rule of why it happens.

edit: added screenshot, first comment is of different size to the next one, changing font size settings keeps the difference

Please can you add the pin/unpin to community feature, for moderated communities? I thought Connect already could do this but I just looked for it and couldn't find it!

Just saw a post on the voting history that Voyager has as a feature and I think it would be neat feature to adopt. Even for users like myself that makes use of user tagging already, I think it would still be useful and complimentary.

This may also provide a bit of a framework for different requested feature, a history of your upvoted and down voted posts. I didn't use it much on Sync for Reddit but it was situationally useful.

When pressing and holding a thumbnail on a post sometimes it will 'stick' and won't go away without restarting the app. I notice that I can still scroll but the image will stay throughout any menus, pressing back, or creating a new post with the plus sign that pops up at the bottom.

When entering the inbox from mid-feed on android, it seems like you can no longer swipe or use the back button to go back to where you were in the feed. Pressing the back button now does nothing, and i have to reselect the feed view in the sidebar, which resets my position in the feed. This is quite annoying when I've already scrolled past a number of posts and see that I've received a message, since i know that reading or responding to it means I'll have to reset my feed from the beginning. Love this app so much though and appreciate everything you do.

Clicked on the link in this comment and connect pops up a little "API error" notification at the bottom, and backs out of the post.

It looks like connect is trying to open the link as if it were linked to another community?

Occasionally I get notifications on Connect from one of my other accounts.

When opening the notification, nothing happens. I would expect it to switch to that account and then open as it does for the current account.

• With "force full-size thumbnails" disabled (the default) most thumbnails fail to load

• With "convert to webp" enabled (the default) most images fall to load in app, but work in an external browser

As an aside, is there an "open external" anywhere when viewing an image? It used to be in the three dot menu, but I don't see it now.

I'm on 1.0.275 and the app crashes upon startup. I also got a system warning about the app using a lot of background battery power.

Images load at a very low resolution and take 5-10 seconds or more to fully load. Something changed a little while ago as I wasn't having this issue before. I tried clearing cache with no change.

If following a link to a comment (from Inbox although not sure that's relevant), when tapping the "view full post" button it still shows the single comment until refreshing by dragging down from the top.

This isn't really a bug, moreso just a compatibility issue with Android 15. Wasn't a problem with 14.

Would it be possible to display thumbnails in full quality? I would like to see images in their best quality without having to tap on them

It's about half of posts I looked at today.

It used to be that pressing the back button while in the settings menu would take you back to where you were before. For the last several versions, it would instead unceremoniously exit the app. I see from the notes for 271 that an exit prompt has been added, seemingly cementing what I would have considered the root bug. (i.e. that it exits at all rather than just going back)

So how are we supposed to leave the settings menu if not the back button?

I've blocked dozens of communities, quit the app and relaunched and still get posts.

Also in settings under block list I only see blocked instances. I've blocked at least one user too, it doesn't show any communities or users only the instances.

Anyone else seeing this? Thanks

Would be nice to see these QOL features added:

1. When changing account using the left pull out bar, uit would be nice if a user could tap the currently logged in user name to drop down the list of users instead of only being able to tap the three dots. Very frustrating when trying to change accounts one handed.
2. Pressing Android system 'back' button when in settings minimises the app when it should move back to the pull out drawer and again to go back to the feed.

Would be great to connect to the frontpage of a mastodon site (e.g mastodon.social) via add/choose account. So I have all information of lemmy and mastodon in one App.

It'd be nice if Connect could have local (on device) history of what the user has opened previously.

I would sometimes read/see things that I would forget to upvote/save, and would then wonder what those things were - and since this isn't my browser, I can't just go to the history.

So here goes: several times it's happened that I'm writing a rather long post or comment, and maybe I need to switch apps to check something, or someone calls, or something like this; upon launching Connect again, if it happens to get killed by Android's memory management in the meantime, it only shows me the home page. If I manage to remember which post it was, the app would show the unfinished comment itself, which is useful, but I still need to be able to get to that post.

There seems to be a correlation between how long a feed hasn't been interacted with and this behavior. (Scroll up and down a feed; Wait a random amount of time; pre-fetching seems to halt.)

There are times when pre-fetching the feed can be slow and briefly pause while loading. Sometimes, this is when the feed will lock up.)

I can still slide to open the menu, but cannot take action on the feed. (The + button opens in the fore-foreground, so it works as well as 'back to exit' Connect.)

I was playing with the thumbnail preview in fairly rapid succession when one just "stuck".

I get notifications on new messages that don't show in the inbox, and mark as read doesn't clear the message from unread.

Manually switching from all/unread seems to work and clears the read messages

When I open the comments of a post, I can still "back" to the frontpage. But when I visit Settings or Inbox via the menu, I can't "back" out of it anymore. I have to navigate back to the frontage via the menu.

I'm using Connect 1.0.267. And everytime I switch accounts via the side tab, the app takes a long time to load the switched account and there's a spinner going on but it never switches.

I've tried logging out of the accounts and logging in back afresh I have but it still doesn't work.

The only way to get it to work is to

• switch account on Connect
• go to the android app info page
• force quit and open the app from scratch.

Then I can get to the switched account.

Am not sure if I'm the only one having this as I cannot find other similar bug reports on this.

Wondering if there's any plans for adding a translate feature. I use Fedilab for Pixelfed and stuff and it has a nifty translate button. Sure, it's not that hard with text copy and I have a translation app installed for a reason. But I'm lazy and tend to ignore stuff in other languages until I found out about the in-app feature. I'm not sure if many Lemmy apps have in-app translation so it could be a stand out feature. And Fedilab being open source may help with implementing the feature here.

When reporting a post, can we have a tick box below the reason for "block user"? This would save doing two actions when reporting a spammer who needs blocking.
