  • FOSS app for running?

Hi, I want to start running and I'm searching for a simple app were I can track my tour as well as getting audio hints for interval training without giving my health data to some data mining company.

whats a game that you got significantly far into, only to realize you were doing something wrong or missing a key feature/ability altogether?
  • When I played the original AoE2 I was completely unaware of the strengths and weaknesses of the different units. I just build whatever I found to be coolest and wondered why I struggled so much.

Only when I bought the Definitive Edition much later I looked that up.

For my defense, I was ten back then.

  • What do you eat in the morning?
  • Probably, but mush is the consistency I strive for tbh. I use standard roled oats which come in an either soft or crunchy variety, with the former taking on more liquid

  • What do you eat in the morning?
  • yeah I think store bought Müsli is much more expensive than the raw ingredients. You can mix to your own liking and unless you get moth's in it, it will stay good to eat for a while

  • What do you eat in the morning?
  • I made a habit out of making overnight oats.

I have a base mix of oats and seeds, like hemp, flax millet, sesame.. I mix it usually dried fruits, peanut butter, maple or beet sirup, banana, cocoa powder and not to forget a pinch of salt.

Add the twice the volume in milk and well, let it soak overnight. Just grab in the morning and ready to go

  • I'm looking for a mobile RPG for Android, that is tabletop oriented like Baldurs Gate. Any recommendations?
  • Answering my own question here, I just found "Grim Quest" to be very enjoyable. No Graphic overload and therefore Batterie leach but a simple yet thought out interface, great dark setting.

    rest comparison

Hi, I recently switched out my cheap stick on rest for a bolt on, mainly because I switched to barebow and I noticed the wire beeing constantly be bend out of tune.

One rest, the Spigarell Z/T was highly recommended from this community, the other was suggested by the supplier and hat some interessting features. I ended up buying both (the Spigarell used from a club member) and so I can share my humble opinion on both. However these are my first bolt on rests and I'm still new to tuning and equipment. Similarites:

Both Rests have roughly the same size same wire thickness. Both can be adjusted vertically and horizontally, but not micro adjusted without tools. Magnet pressure can also be adjusted. Differences:

While Avalaon has a model (classic) which is visually a clone of the Z/T, the Maxx makes some things differently. Wire:

Z/T has a stainless steel wire, while the Maxx has a steel/nickel coated wire, which is meant to reduce friction on the arrow. Wire shape:

The Z/T has a (slight) dip directly at the angle while Maxx has a bigger dip halfway in the longer part of the wire, which, for me, was the crucial factor for what I choose to shoot. More on that later Wire set screws:

On the Z/T the wire is fixed from rotating verticall by two small screws. These took some time to adjust properly, in order to not rattle but also not squezze the wire too tight.

It is not that inconvenient but, the Maxx solved this by just having the whole wire ball beared, which resulted in my feeling for a consistent smoothness Magnet adjustment screw:

As I said, the magnet pressure is adjusted by screwing in a grub screw that seperates the screw that turns with the wire from the magnet. The difference lies in how this screw is fixed in place. The Z/T has a counter nut on top, while the Maxx has a counter grub screw that presses against the thread of the magnet adjustment screw. I can't say which system is safer from ratteling loose. Summary and (personal) conclusion:

I decided to shoot the Max, but the whole reason is not the quality of the rests but has mainly to do with my riser (Cartel Fantom). I haven't tested it on other risers but with my Riser (and arrows) I just could'nt adjust the Z/T rest to get my arrow in the middle of my plunger button without snapping against the tip of said plunger or getting stuck underneath.

Because of the dip in the Maxx I had more range for the vertical adjustment, as can be seen in the pictures.

Of course I can't say anything about longevity, after one week and about 500 arrows on both rests, nothing came loose or had to be readjusted. I personally think both are fine rests for the price (with the Maxx being about 5€ cheaper).

DIY Archery Target recipe, full Cardboard
  • It probably needs to be a bit thicker for bows above 30 lbs. Currently it's 15 cm thick.

However a foam target will probably be better. This is meant for beginners who just starting out on a home range.

I have a second target, which is a burlap sack filled with plastic wrappings. It's also good

  • Bowmaking / Archery - this Blackthorn might has a longbow in it

After my trusty Hazel bow cracked last year, my eyes turned to the huge Blackthorn I have in my garden.

Blackthorn, unlike yew or ash, is not the typical bow wood. But this is largely due to the fact that they usually grow in hedges and it is hard to find a piece long and straight enough to make a bow out of it.

First step is to harvest this in late autumn and let it dry for 8 months.

Been experimenting with diy targets for a while. This is one made out of a 50x50 cardboard box filled with stacked cardboard.

I alternated cardboard scraps with thightly fitted peaces to press them down.

I finished them up with a U formed piece that sticks tight and prevents the pieces beneath to come out on top.

The benefits of this is that I can just swap out the box (have several) reuse most of the filling. Also it is cardboard only, no glue or else, which means it is still fully recyclable.

After some arrows thrown at, it I'll probably put some flat pieces to the back.

Apart from that it works great so far

Hi, as many I've just recently joined lemmy comming from Reddit.

One community I've spend a lot of time over there was r/archery, which has been a great resource for the sport.

Since one can't just found a community here, I thought I first ask if there is any demand for it or if it should stay in the sports community?
