Learning a new language, I can speak and understand pretty well now, but reading is a great way to expand vocabulary I think.

I'm rereading the entire discworld series but in a new language and I'm just loving it. I'm just about to finish equal rites, and I'd honestly forgotten what a joy these books are. I miss Terry Pratchett and his profoundly positive impact on me.

I was just explaining a misunderstanding, that being heckler vs hawker... I think you've replied to the wrong comment?

I think they're referring to hawkers, or people on the streets harassing you to buy something. I don't know why everyone here is calling them hecklers and not confused by that.

I said it elsewhere but it's worth repeating here that fighting drivers is fighting the wrong fight. Fight the government.

Even if you convince the drivers that you're right, nothing changes.

I agree that more bike lanes are needed and also cyclists need to be treated with the respect any life demands.

But flipping off a driver or generally blaming people who drive is fighting the wrong fight. I drive a car, I also cycle, being in a car doesn't make me anti-bike.

Fight the government - flip off the government - that is refusing to put in safe infrastructure for the bikes (with protests like this, of course. But don't flip off the driver, at best it does nothing, at worst it widens the gap between both groups and makes it easier to dehumanize and villianize the cyclists).

Id say it sounds more like "lick or".

I mean, you're not wrong, but it's worth remembering that the scale of the difference has never been so radical. The wealth gap is wider than it has ever been.

Right and even in waterproof clothes you're then a hot sweaty mess when you arrive. Plus if it's raining it's usually windy

And the weather, how is noone mentioning that Irish weather is horrific for cycle commuting like... 9 months a year. Not just rain either, also crazy windy.

Edit: just to clarify, cycling against the wind is a cruelly unenjoyable experience, it can make a downhill feel like an uphill.

Edit 2: I just saw this comment in the article "Irish weather is not even close to the main consideration of why most adults do not cycle." And I mean for me, hard disagree, but maybe I'm a minority.

For me it was MUDs, in particular discworldmud, an entire multiplayer game with only a text interface; type fast or die fast.

All my cities deliveries are on escooters (or whatever those very cool looking electric balancing unicycle things are), I am not sure I know the delivery dude well enough for that level of intimacy.

Thank you for this, on the first watch I thought: "ok the concrete cracked... Is that it?!" After seeing your comment and researching, it's astonishing

It drives me up the wall that steam has data on all of its games about whether it has voice or subtitles in particular languages, but refuses to let me filter by "games voiced in X language". So instead I have to click into each and every one to see if it has the tick or the cross.
