  • I know I'm preaching to the choir but I'm so sick of passive voice reporting. "Critics accuse Trump of" is such a pussy way of saying "Trump did." Like he's being accused of this, but that's because he did it. This does flagrantly break the law. And saying this complaint is coming from his critics is ridiculously dismissive. I wish the headline writers at any major news orgs had half a backbone. Al Jazeera is the only major outlet I can think of that doesn't do this shit constantly, and a smaller outlet is Futurism but they don't do original reporting

  • Recently switched to ucore. While I cannot for the life of me get SELinux to let my containers run without Permissive mode (my server was previously Endeavour OS and either didn't have it or I disabled it long ago), I've otherwise had great success.

The config is a single yaml file that gets converted into a json file for Ignition, which sets everything up on first boot. It's an OCI-based immutable distro with automatic updating, so I can mostly just leave it to its own devices and everything has been smooth for the first week I've been using it.

My Docker root directory is on a separate drive with plenty of space, so setting up involves directing Docker to that new root directory and basically being done (which my Ignition config handles for me).

  • To clarify what I mean by "at the center", the woman of the headline was directed on what to do. She played an important role in coercing the women, but wasn't a mastermind directing anything. All around fucked up situation and I feel horrible for the victims who were raped on camera for millions of viewers.

  • For anyone wondering about the others involved who were not mentioned in the headline, but were at the center of the sex trafficking, here is the ending paragraph of the article:

Judge Sammartino sentenced Pratt to 27 years in prison in September; Andre Garcia, the main “actor” in GirlsDoPorn videos, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on June 14, 2021; Theodore Gyi, the primary cameraman for the ring, was sentenced to four years on November 9, 2022 and ordered to pay victims $100,000; Wolfe was sentenced to 14 years on March 20, 2024; Douglas “James” Wiederhold, who performed in videos before Garcia and was the co-owner of MomPOV.com with Pratt, is set to be sentenced in January.

  • Rabies is not tame. If you get the vaccine for it, you're golden (near perfect efficacy, and you can even get it shortly after contracting rabies because rabies works so slowly).

But as soon as you start showing symptoms, you're dead. Rabies is able to cross the blood brain barrier, but the vaccine for it is not. Once you're showing symptoms, the death rate is 100% (60k die from rabies annually, less than 50 have ever survived after showing symptoms).

  • It's gotten so bad the past year especially. I often open an incognito tab to look something up or watch a video without affecting my recommendations, and every time I do, the logged out YouTube recommendations are worse and worse. Genuine bottom of the barrel fuck shit dog ass slop. If it was illegal to produce slop like this I genuinely think the world would be a slightly better place (or even just making it illegal to monetize it).

  • Windows 10 is still getting security updates if you enrolled for extended security updates, which I believe my Windows machine prompted me to do (though it's possible I only saw it when I went into update settings to manually update, rather than a desktop notification).

  • Jolla released their first smartphone in 2013 after crowdfunding but ultimately the Sailfish OS focus the past number of years now has been offering their software stack for use on other smartphone devices.

This sentence took me so long to decipher. For others struggling, read "has been offering" as "has been to offer". It's saying they tried hardware, but ultimately they've been offering their software stack to other hardware instead of making their own.

  • I'd argue this is why the government shutdown and the Epstein files are so politically important.

If the government is shut down, all the new things are just different ways in which the government shutdown is breaking stuff. No healthcare. No SNAP. Furloughed workers. Airports without air traffic control. It was a rut for Republicans since the 24hr news cycle couldn't move past the shutdown. Then Democrats went and handed them a ladder because they're abysmal at doing politics.

And the Epstein files play into the conspiracy brain that has been cultivated in the right wing mind for so long. 24hr news cycle moving on from the story feels like the media trying to bury the story, which feeds into that conspiracism even more. And since this isn't a made up conspiracy theory, right wingers can't control the narrative as well as they usually do. There's a reality to run up against. Everyone already knows who Epstein was and what he did. Trump is obviously implicated. And the House leader has shut down the entire House to prevent the Epstein files from making any progress towards a public release. That obviously feeds into the conspiracy that the files are damning and powerful people are working together to cover it up. I think Marjorie Taylor Green recently announced she's quitting her current public office role as a result of backlash from wanting to see the Epstein files released and fighting with Trump over it. These are wedge issues that don't work in Republicans' favor.

  • I ran on Bazzite during the server slam right before release with few issues that I ended up sorting out. Their discord is very helpful and had a dedicated Linux support channel (I imagine there is a similar dedicated channel now that the game has fully released). Embark Studios has also stated that while they don't officially support Linux, they do support it on a best-effort basis and partner with a testing company that tests the game on Linux via Proton, so I wouldn't expect it to suddenly stop working any time soon.

  • I've had this issue and for me using earlyoom helped. My computer ram would fill up and the kernel oom killer wouldn't trip in time to be helpful. It could just be your memory filling up and your computer not killing the offending process in time.
