Grok got a Nazi patch
  • I didn't get it yet. I think they're gonna make it insidious: for most people it will be correct and they will progressively inject confirmation bias when people use it to judge something (e.g @Grok is this true?)

I think the first step towards destroying the Holocaust memory and all the work of historians +survivors is going to consist in presenting conflicting realities, creating confusion and doubt.

edit: btw, for now Grok is okay because he reframed my denialism of a simple "conflict" into genocide

  • Thank you, Thor! 🥳
  • I don't know what happened in details but I really don't hate him, as a member of the video game industry he has the right to make his voice heard.

I'm still glad consumers won here :)

  • Sun political columnist Lorne Gunter explains why, as a non-gun owner, he still supports a Canadians right to lawfully own and use firearms.
  • there won't be less shootings, less mass killings

    Source ?

It's your freedom to collect guns

In a society, freedom ends where the safety of others are threatened

Bro I watched the video, and there's no sources he is just saying thing lmao. He loves saying "low abiding" lol

  • [SPOILERS] Just finished The Last Of Us Part I, what an amazing game

I played it on my Steam Deck, 30 FPS average with lots of audio crackling, apparently because of the CPU load. I played the game in hard mode because I was afraid survivor and grounded would break the balance.

The gameplay is great: it was insanely fun outsmarting the infected, circling around the clickers, burning the bloaters. Against those enemies, stealth really was a challenge and I had to manage my stress level (stalkers and runners were especially hard to deal with in the sewer); I'm convinced I would not be able to finish this game in permanent death as certain sequences took me 5-7 tries to do correctly (optimizing to use the least amount of gear or straight up surviving). It was really hard to aim well enough on a controller to be able to do headshot with consistency (this game with a controller and a mouse must feel like heaven to master).

Stealth against humans is way too easy though: you can easily never use your weapons and just throw a glass bottle against the wall, cleanup with a bomb or a Molotov, and you will never be punished when doing a stealthy kill if you take too long which basically means that shiv are useless for anything other than doors (I did not buy the ability to get off the grasp of clickers with shivs).

The hostage mechanic felt so cool, but I rarely used it because I felt like I couldn't afford to waste bullets because of the resource scarcity. I would have loved the game to be more punishing and to force me to spend my gear; I was never spotted and I am horrible at stealth (hello Cyberpunk 2077).

On the writing side, the game shines even more. I was so heartbroken when Sarah was murdered, when Tess sacrificed herself, when Sam turned and Henry killed himself, when Joel said horrible things to Ellie, when he murdered all the fireflies, the surgeon, Marlene in cold blood.

And that's where the game shines! It shows you this great dynamics between Joel and Ellie, this growing bond that is so precious. You despise and love Joel: you despise his lack of moral, his emotional immaturity (not wanting to talk about the hard stuff and lying to Ellie) but you understand where it comes from, you understand why the violence happened.

This constant tension, this gray area makes the game so real and gripping; you can only look with a mix of disgust and support as you're ripping your way through the enemies in the hospital with savagery.

What Joel did is unequivocally wrong and selfish but I cannot judge because I know full well I'd probably have done the same thing in this situation. Well, I'm not sure but I can see it.

This game really made me understand the complexity of moral and decision, the conflicting goals and the harshness of survival. I highly look forward to playing the sequel.

EDIT; I think the right difficulty for me is the "Survivor" one, grounded looks to hard without a mouse.

My music doesn't sound great but I feel like I'm moving in the right direction and asking the right questions

I have no other beatmaker to work and collaborate with so it's very hard for me to take a fair look at what I'm doing. The last week was especially hard mentally: I felt very bad because my music didn't sound like I expected it to sound like. Don't get me wrong: I'm vibing when I'm working on it, I'm feeling good and I like it but it's not quite something you'd want to listen yet.

The problem is that there's no blueprint that can be learned; you have to fail, again and again, until things finally start clicking together. You gotta select better sounds, be more deliberate with how you mix (fader first, effect chains after). You always have to be self-concious if no one is working with you, looking at yourself holistically to know what works and doesn't.

    Here's a few things I've learned:

    • start to break out of the 8-bar loop as fast as possible to not get stuck on the arranging
    • select good quality sounds because no matter how hard you try, you will never sound good with dogshit sounds
    • less is more, try to do as much as possible with simple sounds; it will help you switch things up to make the music more interesting

I love it but it's very tiring. I know I made a lot of progress but the road to mastery is very long. I hope I can be more constant in the future.

Do you manage to be creative and make art after your job?

I feel so drained after having put all of my critical thinking and creativity evaluating solution to the engineering problems I encounter; when you want to keep improving by doing a little bit everyday, how do you manage to make something decent?

    Merci d'avance...

I need a new phone but I want to do this right

(Please when answering, assume I’m not a beginner at privacy/programming :) I know where the good stuff at)

First off, shameful confession: I’m writing this on a dying yellow iPhone XR I bought second-hand three years ago (189€). I absolutely love the look of it: the screen, build quality, are all amazing. The only problem was the locked ecosystem (sideloading Spotify/Torrent client was sooo hard).

I saw the android phone of my mother dying really fast. She currently has a Xiaomi phone that’s ridiculously big for my hands, there’s advertisements in the stocks apps (?!!), the UX is janky and everything. It looks like a bloat, privacy nightmare.

So… because it’s impossible to find a jailbreakable phone nowadays I need to buy an android and ideally I would want:

    • Good screen (vivid colors)
    • Good build quality (not shitty plastic)
    • Don’t care about the camera (I don’t want those ridiculously big cameras they make nowadays)
    • Would want to install either GrapheneOS/LineageOS

The things that scare me off:

    • I really need my bank app and I need it updated so I have to use Google Play Services but I don’t want it to plague my phone with privacy bullshit (I want to be degoogled)

    The things that excite me:

    • Customization possibilities
    • Learning experience
    • Even more privacy than a de-googled IOS phone :)
    • F-Droid!! (Maybe I’ll find a beautiful IRC client)
    • More choices for Mastodon & Lemmy clients
    • Freedom of free software.
    • client for open-source git providers :)

But to get all of that, I don’t want Google, I need shitty apps (non-free software) I have to install:

    • Instagram (for non-technical friends)
    • GitHub (job & open-source)
    • No-Ad Modded Spotify from Balatan
    • Discord (gamer friends)
    • Telegram (cryptobros friends)
    • Steam (because I still love gaming)

Any advices? Phone ideas? I’m so lost in this ocean of choice (freedom ✨)

    My current phone:

    !

Is Asmongold an alt-right "entrypoint" influencer?

When I watch certain of his Youtube clips, etc... some things bug me off. What do you think of it?

Is there a book/saga that you finished and cannot forget to the point where it gets harder to read other books?

For me, the first time this happened was with The Royal Assassin Saga from Robin Hobb, and then Metro 2033.

This year, it’s The Witcher saga… (I can’t move on) I love all those introspective books with thoughtful heroes trying to make sense of the world they are forced to evolve into.

Do you have any other book like that?

How do you find projects to work on when learning a new language?

I have been learning C++/Elixir recently and I’ve made a distributed port scanner & and a streaming platform with Elixir (what an amazing language to work with) and some fun in C++ (also super cool to use).

I feel like I gained basic mastery of the languages, but I’ve been meaning to deepen my knowledge of them. However, I don’t know where to start now…

Can you give me ideas, open-source project that I could help, etc… ? Thanks!

Help me address some problems with C++ (beginner questions)

I've been trying to learn a system language because it would enable me to access a whole new world of possibility for games, tools, and potential projects. My main problem when learning the language are:

    • can I write modern C++ code using the newer standards and still compile with libraries from older standards?
    • how do I even organize a C++ project? Look at the linked project, the CMakeList.txt is so hard to understand, the syntax looks so hard to write.
    • how do I install dependencies? You're going to laugh at me, but I always used languages with package managers and I looked again at the linked project, and they write a whole CMakeList.txt to import ImGui (GUI library I wanna try) but if you compare the structure of the files, it's different from the ones on the repository of ImGui.

As you see there are a lot of problems and it pains me to not be able to solve them because Rust is so unfun to use and work with! Do you think I should try C++, carry one with it?

    Thanks, hector.

That would include all their Github issues, the git repo on its last version, the latest available release binaries from the Github page, and all of their progress reports from the Yuzu website. The progress reports are good for understanding the general work and weaving a narrative in your mind about the trajectory of the Yuzu project, and the Github issues can outline resolved issues and outstanding ones. > > I do not include any illicit materials in my archive. Do you feel like top-down point-and-click movement is not precise?

I was watching the IGN overview on “No Rest For The Wicked” and they say that they abandoned the point-and-click system in favor of WASD because it was not precise enough.

I don’t mind it, either way is fine. However I love the League of Legends type of movement, it’s a factor that makes me still play the game.

(DotA has even better and precise movement mechanics but they are less fun I think)

It’s hard to master yeah, with the unlocked camera and all but I feel like you can be very precise and do exactly what you want: it is very satisfying.

What do you think? Do you know other games that use this point-and-click movement?
