  • This statement hardly merits the same level of proof as a scientific publication. The original post is an example of the obnoxious behavior you find on r/atheism.
They feel superior to and smarter than religious people. In this extreme case, the poster expresses feeling superior to people who died in a stampede that took place at a religious event.
Internet atheists who think they are superior to believers / Believers who think they are superior to atheists are two sides of the same coin.

  • Bizarre response. It feels obvious saying this, but 'they' is a better grammatical choice in this context, regardless of politics or human rights. It has been changed to 'it' in the build instructions since which sounds correct.

To prevent this, remove anon from the wheel group and it will no longer be able to run /bin/su.

  • don't use ladybird browser lol
  • "they" ist kein Pluralwort. "they" ist ein Pronomen der 3. Person Singular sowie der 3. Person Plural. Das ist genau so, wie "you" ein Pronomen der 2. Personal Singular und der 2. Person Plural ist.

  • Manitoba EV incentives finally ready to roll
  • I'm very skeptical of EV rebates. In Germany, this has only led to EV makers jacking up prices by $4,000 or whatever the rebate was. It's redistribution of wealth to the top in the form of our tax money. When the rebates were axed here, prices for EVs and wall chargers dropped over night.

Furthermore, I can accept that owning a car is kind of a necessity in much of Manitoba. And it should be a somewhat decent car too given your harsh winters. But seriously, even if the rebate didn't go straight into the EV maker's pockets, should we really give $4,000 to individuals who can afford to sink $70,000 into a new car? Put that money into something everyone can benefit from, like cycling or pedestrian infrastructure and public transport.

  • Hiker dies in cow herd charge in Austrian Alps
  • This news comes just two days after @TheBananaKing@lemmy.world asked Is it generally safe to walk through a field of cows? on !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world. To cite a response from the thread:

Usually it’s pretty safe except when there are calves on the field. It happens every year that some tourists (especially with dogs) go through a field with calves and their mothers and someone gets injured. - @SRo@lemmy.dbzer0.com

This comment is backed up by a statement from the linked article:

Emergency service personnel cited by Austrian media warned of the danger of dogs getting near cows. “Cows have a very strongly developed maternal instinct and defend their calves,” said an emergency service source cited by news agency APA.

    Czechia vs Türkiye (Hamburg, 21:00)
  • What an awful match. 16 yellow cards and 1 red during the match alone, with extra yellows and reds after the match (WTF). A streaker (clothed) ran out before the match was over, which somehow led to a brawl between Czech and Turkish players. The gameplay was kinda boring too. I should have watched Georgia v. Portugal instead, that game was nuts.

  • How useless are dating apps?
  • As a man: Prepare to be rejected over and over, to feel disposible and useless, unwanted and nobody likes you and you will never be as good as other men and you might as well end it now.

As a woman: Prepare to meet men who have the biggest mommy issues, to be called an entitled bitch and everybody who likes you will promptly abandon you once they figure out who you really are.

These apps prey on your worst anxieties about yourself, and then sell you the remedy: An outrageously expensive subscription to skip past the chaff and find your true life mate. Except, then you'd leave the platform, and you'd stop paying up. Match group is busy gobbling up every dating app they can get their hands on and they will stop at nothing to turn them all into the same steaming pile of shit.

What are your favorite openings to a book?

In an interview with recently deceased author Paul Auster, he says the following:

    > When I was 9 or 10, my grandmother gave me a six-volume collection of books by Robert Louis Stevenson, which inspired me to start writing stories that began with scintillating sentences like this one: “In the year of our Lord 1751, I found myself staggering around blindly in a raging snowstorm, trying to make my way back to my ancestral home.”

This encouraged me to browse my bookshelf and search for those scintillating first sentences. As it turns out, many of the books that I loved the most really do pack a punch before the end of their first paragraph. Here's my personal selection. Unlike Auster's example, the ones I am sharing do not immediately drop you in the middle of the action, as the number of adventure books on my bookshelf is marginal. However, I do feel they capture a lot about the protagonist and set the tone for the novel.

I would love for you to share yours.

The Brooklyn Follies by Paul Auster: > I was looking for a quiet place to die. Someone recommended Brooklyn, and so the next morning I traveled down there from Westchester to scope out the terrain.

Moon Palace by Paul Auster: > It was the summer that men first walked on the moon. I was very young back then, but I did not believe there would ever be a future.

The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger > If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.

The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin by David Nobbs > When Reginald Iolanthe Perrin set out for work on the Thursday morning, he had no intention of calling his mother-in-law a hippopotamus.

I cannot make any post/comment containing the string [slash]etc[slash]passwd on lemmy.world

When I try to submit a post or comment containing the string [slash]etc[slash] passwd, the submit button goes into a loading state and spins indefinitely. The request is blocked by Cloudflare with status code 403. I can't even search for the forbidden string. You have to check dev tools to find out what went wrong, this error is not handled in the UI at all.

So, if you've ever tried to reply to a tech issue and the UI just won't let you, maybe this is why.

Firefox stops loading pages seemingly at random, shows NS_BINDING_ABORTED, have to restart

Sometimes I'll be browsing Firefox and things go wrong seemingly at random - all pages load indefinitely or show a screen indicating failure to load. This can be fixed by running pkill firefox and then starting a new instance. A look at Dev Tools shows that all requests fail and a message NS_BINDING_ABORTED is shown. I have looked up "firefox NS_BINDING_ABORTED" but none of the results 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 provided any solution.

Does anyone here know more about this issue?
