  • That would be in line with the "no immediate indication of foul play"

The Press Association confirmed there is an โ€œactive investigationโ€™โ€™ into the deaths. Sheriff Mendoza said there was no immediate indication of foul play. He did not provide a cause of death or say when the couple might have died.

  • Hey sorry for the delay, did you manage to get this working or was it still stuck?

  • Seems like there's two versions of the paragraph now, what's the firefox-tou bit about?

  • More places seem to be switching over to a centralized/interoperable system for prescription information. In BC Canada we have

    https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/practitioner-professional-resources/pharmacare/pharmanet-bc-s-drug-information-network

PharmaNet is a provincewide network owned and operated by the Ministry of Health. PharmaNet keeps a record of every prescription dispensed in B.C. community pharmacies and select hospital outpatient pharmacies.

In another Lemmy thread recently, someone mentioned that Australia has a national system for it. I think this might be it

  • The UI mostly, and because the layout is familiar to them

  • You could try specifying the material, like "a wax statue that is starting to soften and melt"

  • On the surface, both of them look very similar in format. They also both advertise themselves as decentralized and different from traditional social media, arguing that they won't face the same problems old social media did.

Mastodon uses ActivityPub, which is the widely used standard that most other fediverse platforms use. Mastodon is properly decentralized, where all the servers can interact and operate independently.

BlueSky made their own protocol that they control, citing that ActivityPub wasn't enough for what they wanted to do, and in some ways that's true. However with their structure, a central relay is needed in order for different instances to interact and so people argue that it isn't truly decentralized. Right now BlueSky is either the only instance, or basically the only instance. They've mentioned that they could transfer control of the relay to some other organization, but past that I don't think they've taken any steps towards that.

BlueSky is also a VC backed company while Mastodon is now under a nonprofit. BlueSky has its roots in crypto tech. There is more technical discussion on if it's even possible to have a decentralized BlueSky and if it's all just talk while they gather users.

My personal opinion is that I really hope bluesky does what they're promising, but I'm not expecting them to be any different than Twitter once they get a critical mass of users and the investors demand profits / infinite growth.

  • If my understanding is correct

With Islam, the deity is meant to have no gender and the use of "he" has more to do with the nuances of Arabic language

With Christianity, there is more anthropomorphism and the deity is seen as a father figure in comparison to everything else

  • I installed OnlyOffice for a family member and they have no complaints. They were happy to learn they don't need to worry about subscriptions anymore either

  • I haven't seen this application yet, but is the difference that you can install word locally instead of using it in a web browser?

  • I may be wrong, but I think it's because some company owns the rights to the show in Canada and doesn't want people watching it on YouTube

  • Indirectly, looking up "John Oliver Mastodon" brings up this post in the top few. "John Oliver Pixelfed" has this post as the first option

So we're not completely left out :)

  • DDG and Brave were pushed as "censorship free" alternatives, back when I was looking into covid disinformation, because the very obviously fake websites would sometimes rank higher on them

There may be more to it though

  • Someone could make a script that does that every now and then.

Check for any communities made since the last run, and add those to the list

  • Yup, the dev commented on this a while back here:

    Dev here.

The dialog and its content is not created by me, it is a standard solution from Google to comply with GDPR and other laws. More info here: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/10114014?hl=en

The consent dialog is also required by Google AdMob to show ads, and it is shown when the ad network is initialized.

When the app launches, first it checks for the remove ads purchase, and if it is not present, it will initialize the ads sdk. The ad network is not initialized if the remove ads purchase is detected.

Boost for Reddit was using the very same ad networks and consent dialog.

(In fact they've commented on this a few times)

I personally liked Boost, and paid for the ad free version to support the development. For what it's worth, I've also donated to / bought a few others for similar reasons, and I keep a few Lemmy apps installed so I can test things out on the admin side.

Without recommending any particular app, I'd recommend this site, which lets you compare and filter by the factors that are important to you: https://lemmyapps.com/

If you want a guide for new users, we have one here (tldr it links to the site above): https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/lemmy/for-users/mobile-apps

  • Those diagrams were very helpful and nicely made, thanks for sharing!

Would that mean that walking on flat ground is difficult for them, since they would have to keep putting in effort to open the talons?

It also made me go back and watch the video of the owl that fell over after anaesthesia. Watching it again now, the dressing on the feet that were open the talons, might have limited its mobility even more than I thought

  • I'm more of an outsider for this community / hobby, but I thought the post was neat :)
