Can't find a clip of it, but I loved it when Penn Jilette was on some celebrity poker show and he would Praise Satan after every of his winning hands.
I know Americans thank god quite a lot but do they really thank god when they win in sports too? It feels like it would be out of place.
They do. All the time. Not just at the end, but during the game if they make a good play, they'll point to the sky. It's insane. Sports and religion, especially American football and religion, are deeply intertwined in this country. It's one of the reasons I've never really gotten much into sports.
So I don’t think everytime to do the point to the sky thing it’s religious. I played a lot of sports through high school and in college and I did that but I’m an atheist. For me it was more of a “bless up” type thing. I’m sure a decent amount of it in sports is religious but I don’t thing every single time it is. It’s just a way to celebrate without being overly cocky and being proud of what happened
In Portugal it's a common way to dedicate a goal to a decently deceased person. It's not insane at all.
Oh absolutely one hundred percent.
At least in high school football in Texas lmao
Tim Tebow would kneel and pray during football games just before he did a play. Just to suck up everyone's time, I guess.
I think the way it works is one ascribes good things to Special Magic Jesus or his dad (same thing, I know) and bad things to The Satan. However, one team wins when the other loses, so somehow God made one team win and Devil made the other lose.
No the devil made both things happen because anything that happens that doesn't inherently represent god is the devil's work /s
I saw a car a few years back with a decal on the window that went something like:
"RIP Kevin - God Healed Your Pain and Called You To Heaven"
In other words, God wins no matter what. Either Kevin lives and hey, look how awesome God is, or Kevin dies, and hey, look how awesome God is.
I don't know how people can live that way. Even my Catholic wife is like WTF??
But you won the last time...
This is exactly what I needed to see today.
The good lord tripped me up behind the line of scrimmage.
George Carlin, is that you?
