I’ve seen a lot of stuff posted saying “just a reminder that the only person punished for Epstein files was a woman!“. But it seems like the people saying that forgot that Epstein himself went to prison and then died.

They have only released half of them, heavily redacted. The Trump admin is violating the law by keeping the rest hidden.

Not a great comparison as the Trump tower is one building while the Obama Library is an entire complex.

The smartest person to have ever existed, Elron Musk, apparently doesn't either. He literally didn't know what USAID did while he was destroying it, motivated by that he wanted to end their investigation into the possible use of missing Starlink terminals by Russia. Members of his admin and maga dorks in general often say "why are we spending money on other countries and not at home??" They're incredibly unaware of how global politics works and generally of other countries at all. Well, not as if Republicans allow taxpayer dollars to be used to help citizens domestically anyway.

I guess it depends what the court wants to believe, which could be based on case law/precedent or expert testimony. It seems likely to me that an insanity defense being presented would increase the scrutiny the judge would apply to the defendant's competence to represent themselves. It is required that a judge establish that a defendant seeking to go Pro Se is making an informed and rational decision.

A person who is severely mentally ill may be barred from representing themselves if they would not be able to do a competent job.

My thoughts on that is tbh at if a defendant was coherently and effectively serving as their own attorney in court, that would indicate to the court that they are not severely mentally ill. Or if they produced evidence like expert testimony saying they were, it could disqualify them from self representing.

It's not clear if future Republican presidents will have the legislative branch in their thrall to the same extent.
