Palestinians didn't. Hamas did. There's a distinction there.
And before you start both-sidesing saying that the IDF is attacking Palestinians... Israelis voted for this current government, more or less. I assume it was a nominally fair election.
The last election in Gaza was won with a minority vote for Hamas (44%? they were a plurality-vote, whoever got the most won). further, that was back in 2006. they haven't had election since- and that was 17 years ago. This means that about half of the people alive in Gaza before Oct 7th were too young to actually vote in that election. And of the ones that were... most didn't. source
