grocery shopping
I never shoplifted. But if I saw a shoplifter I have to say no, I didn't. No idea what you are talking about. None whatsoever. Here is my receipt for my stuff... what other guy? I don't look at other people. Kindly leave me be. Good day!
Makes sense, although at the same time the price of things you buy is based on the cost with theft factored in already. More thefts mean they would have to adjust the calculation and prices go up to cover it. I don't know how far that goes, 99% theft and the 1% spending £50 on a loaf of bread?
Part of it depends what someone is stealing, if its a bag of potatoes or some bread, you are probably desperate. If its a 4k TV I don't have that same sympathy.
Retail staff are trained to let you go, we're not security, we can't stop you, a manager might try but just be confident and walk with intent and you'll be fine.
Yeah it's like when you're leaving a store whose manager sucks and instituted receipt checking.
Youre trying to leave and there's this big line of people getting checked. You can just leave. People seem happy to sheep along but you can just leave.
Many years ago now I bought some shitty furniture at a target (I think it was a desk chair or something) and I refused to acknowledge the receipt checker so they followed me to my car at which point I just lied and told them I'd thrown it away after I left the store. Of the two of us, the other guy was the only one who might get in trouble.
Much more sustainable to shoplift a little bit at once. Steal like 1 item when you buy 10, make it something small. Oops, it just slid under something in your bag. Don't make it the most expensive item of your shop.
In my area the self checkout systems at the grocery store often fritz out an don't register the item. This is even after they beep. It's truly wonderful. I consistently get 50% or more of the items in my cart for free. Nothing they can do to me either. They have me on video scanning every item. If their system buggers up the total it's on them.
If they want somebody to catch computer errors then there's a thing called "pay a employee."
I'm not saying this is moral or anything, but if you buy something expensive, then you could theoretically go back to the store with the receipt, pick another of that thing from the store, and go to the register and tell them you want to return it.
I have been homeless. You do what you need to survive.
Also don't do it AT the register. Those cameras are much closer and better than the cameras pointing down the aisles. Sure, you can say you made a mistake, voiding the 'intent' of the crime, but you're much more likely to get caught and banned.
voiding the 'intent' of the crime
Worth noting that Target is known for making a profile on lifters. They wait you til you hit a threshold for a felony. The repeated behavior makes the intent clear as well.
I've literally seen people just walk out with a cart full of shit. Employees chasing and yelling but nothing comes of it.
Depends on where you are but where I'm at they don't go after anyone for this.
It's sad because everything is getting locked up or they just close locations.
I recently saw a clip of a video where a girl was working checkout at Walmart and the person just pushed their cart through the checkout and walked out the store with it and she was just like, well, whatever.
They are trained not to care unless they are loss-prevention for their own well being, and the latter can really only report the theft.
They explicitly told us to not confront shoplifters. There was a training video where a guy got his ass kicked in the parking lot.
Janes Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
once, when I was 5.
I enjoy stealing
No pepperoni?
The person at the counter counted more coupons than cash that day.
It's why they have those annoying gates at Kroger now, to stop people from just walking out with carts full of groceries.
Lame.
How would you get that much stuff out of a store without getting caught? Slipping a candy bar in your bra or a can in your bag is easy, but when you've gained 5+ kg of weight in the store, the cashier might get a tad bit suspicious. I guess you could make multiple trips, but I think cashiers or guards would notice when the same person has gone into the store 9 times without buying anything.
You can just walk out. Most places won't stop you.
The post is likely fake.
You are not gonna pass by a particularly attentive loss prevention team, even if small. But some stores do wait until you steal enough to make it a felony.

It takes a big man to accept government assistance.
That’s getting shut down too, they already fired most of the SNAP employees.
They've declared no SNAP for November, now
