FIFA is one of the most corrupt, rotten organisations on the planet.
Alongside the current US administration.
Well then they’ve found the perfect country
Yeah, that's almost certainly a significant to decisive part of the reason why the US bid was accepted over the other applications: the bribes and the president basically being the American Infantino.
Not only is this a ripoff, but traveling to the United States right now from literally any foreign country is a terrible idea.
If you get picked up off the street by the secret police, there's nobody who can come to your aid at that point.
I'm Canadian, and there's a work conference in the states in an area I really would have wanted to go to if it were a year ago.
All expenses paid by the company for a week of travel and schmoozing.
Still not going.
Ditto. SKO in Vegas early next year, all paid. Staying home.
Or just come to Canada and die in a fire that was set by the mafia in your egressless airbnb.
Between the ticket prices and the, ah, challenging political climate in the US, I am really curious what game attendance will be.
Packed. I sadly have no doubt.
Yeah, then ICE will raid the events.
It’s the most popular sporting event on the planet in a country with 300 million people, this is nothing like the Club World Cup that was held this year. The lack of tourists might not be a problem, save for maybe atmosphere.
This chart, with the huge ticket prices, is why the US was chosen.
How popular is non-american football in the US? I know its been getting more popular recently, but unlike most of europe and south america, it's far from the #1 sport.
I have no doubt the canadian and mexican games (and the finals) will be sold out, but with these prices, the state of the US economy, and no sane person wanting to travel there, I wouldn't be super surprised if some games in the US weren't. After all, if you're not from NA, you can just go to the next one 4 years later and it's probably much cheaper.
Sadly it won't be the ghost stadiums it would deserve though.
Will probably be great in Mexico and Canada, they'll probably fill the stadiums there with the people who don't want to go to the US to see it.
Ending up on an ICE concentration camp: priceless
And for everything else there's MasterCard
Which will get blocked, because you bought a doujin where the girl had cat ears, which is obviously "bestiality", so Visa and Mastercard's monopoly wouldn't get challenged by the Trump regime, which seeks to ban pornography because of a relatively unknown Australian feminist group with ties to christian fundamentalists and other pro-censorship groups.
It is legitimately dangerous to travel to the United States, because of state sanctioned violence.
At least there's price gouging to offset concerns about personal safety, the very real possibility of being sent to a Concentration Camp, etc.
Remember the 1936 Berlin Games?
iirc the government went out of its way to be accommodating to all attendees.
I'm not even gonna watch it for free in TV
also you get to be deported ! what a shit show
That's why the high price.
The 2022 World Cup was literally built by slaves. It has a way of keeping prices down.
2014 Germany for the final at category 1 was 990$, less than half, accounting for inflation and generously rounding this would be 1400$.
Edit: Less than half for Cat 4 right now
It's not like those savings were passed down to the consumer. They were pocketed by corrupt officials.
Sucks to be Mexican. The world cups finally coming to your country after 40 years and the tickets are too expensive for the locals to afford.

They don't want the poor to attend because they are the one that will turn the stadium into a protest.
Lol.
The Divided States of Trashcanistan hasn't hosted since 1994 and it's going to be an absolute garbage shitshow for the wealthy only. Probably plagued with ICE terrorists. Not to mention another year under this admin and the dollar will probably have tanked another 10% and our cost of living will probably be even more absurd.
There's going to be 6 games within a 2 hour drive from me and I have no intention of going to any of them, despite spending the last few decades fantasizing about going to a World Cup game with some friends.
Pathetic shithole.
For the cheapest ticket you could have flown to the (excellent) womans European championship, got a CAT1 ticket, see Geneva and fly back.
You won the internet today.
Don't forget the Ticketmaster fee.
We bought a few tickets. I have always wanted to go to a world cup match. We have no idea who is playing. We can't resell the tickets if the teams don't match. It is so fucking stupid. My wife got kinda tricked as she knows I always wanted to go. Fuck FIFA and USA soccer for being compliant.
Can you explain more about not being able to resell if the teams don’t match?
Presale tickets are for time and location. They are sold to a degree already. The groups are not even made. The teams haven't even qualified. The only ones that are, are US, Mexico an Canada. If you want one of those in presale, you had to buy for 4 - 8 games, high price locations. It is so stupid and greedy. You can't not by terms resell them using any service. You could theoretically resell them directly person to person, but that is not easy.
You buy tickets to watch your favorite country play in the finals. They get booted in the semifinals. You're stuck watching two teams you dgaf about.
I am so done with these enormous events. Money fucks up everything. FIFA, IOC, Formula 1, (any other sufficiently large international sports organization, tbh), Eurovision, they all suck. Corrupt leadership in the pockets of the worst states: Russia, Qatar, China, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Trump's regime, France 😉
agreed(even if i live in Qatar)
Same price for games in Mexico and the US. That's not good for Mexicans.
People who want to go there deserve to be scammed into bankruptcy.
The RWC (rugby world cup) after this in Australia will have $20 tickets for kids...
Well, duh, no one wanted to watch it in fucking Qatar.
Good point!
I however found it mildly interesting that Zohran Mamdani was making this part of the issues he's messaging about for NYC, to at least drive down the price for locals. Free childcare, public owned groceries, sure, but FIFA tickets? Yet this graphic kinda puts that in perspective, so I get it.
Tariffs
That’s fantastic, I wouldn’t have come anyway.
Is that standard uniform ticketmaster prices? What are typical NFL regular, playoff, and superbowl prices?

NFL Ticket prices
Season/Round Price Range Notes
Regular Season $50 - $500+ Upper-level seats can start around $50-$100, while premium lower-level and club seats can cost $200-$500+. The average NFL ticket price in 2023 was $377, a jump from $235 in 2022. Team popularity and opponent rivalry significantly influence pricing. According to vocal.media, the average cost of NFL season tickets in 2024 ranged between $600 and $3,000 per seat.
Wild Card Round Starting around $145 Prices can fluctuate, with some games seeing higher averages.
Divisional Round Starting around $400 Some games have averaged around $993.
Conference Championships Starting around $800 Expect to pay at least $800 for the most affordable tickets.
Super Bowl Starting around $2,000 - $3,000 Seats can exceed $1,800, especially in high-demand markets. The average price for Super Bowl 2025 tickets was reported at $8,076 by StubHub, down 14% from 2024. Previous Super Bowls have seen average prices like $12,082 (2024) and $8,907 (2023). Prices on the secondary market are typically higher than face value.
I don't expect a lot of tourism demand to come to US, especially with ICE announcing any excuse to raid the superbowl of all events. World cup is more popular with immigrants and tourists than NFL, and "NFL demographic" tends to have low interest in soccer. MLS (pro soccer in US) is 6x lower ticket prices than NFL.
the most depressing part is how small this page is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-FIFA_international_football
This makes me want to go watch the 2029 Island Games on IoM just out of spite
WTF. This is such a huge waste of money. I don't know how people spend this much money to watch OTHER PEOPLE play a sport. A couple hundred at most.
As a non sports fan the relative prices between matches make very little sense to me.
The opening match being more-or-less tied for second-most-expensive is just silly. Isn't it just a group match? Does it really matter that much?
And the third-place match being cheaper than the quarter-finals? Going to see who'll finish the absolute best except for two teams doesn't matter? If my team was in the third-place match I'd want desperately for them to finish on a high!
I guess it's just another Sports Thing™.
For the opening match, you get to watch the opening ceremony as well, so there's that
Opening match you know you get to watch your own team play.
Ir's a new world, designed for and by rich people. They plan to replace most of us with AI and automation, and want us to fight each to the death until 70% of the population is gone.
Oh they know there'll be people paying this for sure. All just to watch their country disappoint them.
It's because of the tariffs.
Is this that Akufo league I've been hearing about?
Stupid event is coming to my area. Our traffic already sucks, fuck the hell off.
I am curious how badly it will go tbh, other countries that host it usually have reasonably good public transport options. At least good enough for getting people out of a stadium.
Considering my past experiences leaving NFL stadiums after a game, not well.
You can be stuck in the parking lot (in your car) for hours after a game ends, and only move a few feet/meters.
Most stadiums are surrounded by a sea of alsphalt, and in some cases adjacent to one or two Interstates Hwys.
Cowboys play here. We have sports stadiums coming out our ass. Our transportation and roads are all fucked up....
Part of the reason why MetLife Stadium in New Jersey won the finals game is because of the superior transit to the stadium and nearby cities over AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
If they are gonna charge this much for tickets they should tax it and put some of that money towards public transportation.
As an American, you would have to be so fucking stupid to come here for this.
At least you only need a one-way ticket. Your return flight will be at no cost to you. Although the destination is not negotiable.
Good luck seeing the game then. "No return ticket? That's suspicious, you won't be allowed to enter."
Have fun in El Salvador or Ghana!
That got me!!
Good news, there are a lot of stupid people out there.
With that much money?
