As immigration agents take a more aggressive approach, they have stopped and in some cases detained American citizens.
Abolish ice. Maybe, just maybe, we should treat people as people? Citizen, immigrant, asylum seekers, you know…. People?
There's a reason the 4th amendment talks about the rights of people, not the rights of citizens.
Immigration and customs enforcement still needs to happen, so it wouldn't make sense to abolish them.
But the path to citizenship needs to be significantly easier.
These things happened before ICE existed.
It makes total sense to abolish the agencies we have now just to boot the racists. Otherwise they're going to spend the rest of their lives looking for ways to abuse their authority
ICE and the entire department of homeland security dis not exist until after 9/11. The country has been fine without this state sanctioned violent gang roaming the streets.
I could see customs, but immigration? Honestly the more I think about it the more I conclude that the entire concept of immigration enforcement and a distinction between citizens and noncitizens is unethical
Republicans will never agree to any meaningful change in immigration policy. It gives them two valuable things: First, a Bad Guy on whom to blame everything. Second, a broken system they can point to as evidence that government is inherently incompetent, so everything should be privatized.
It needs to happen but there is no reason for it to be inhumane
