US Senator tells his constituents 'Get a life' when asked about calls and emails his office has been getting

Easy fix .. vote for the other guy.

With gerrymandering he is choosing his voters, that's why he doesn't care about opinions of those people.
He definitely won't choose them to vote for him.
- The Senate doesn't have gerrymandering like the house does. There's definitely still bullshit based on the way representatives are appointed per State, but they can't redraw districts to pick their voters like they can for the House.
- Sorry, no, you can't both-sides this one. One side is actively supporting and cheering on all the horrors we've seen over the last 7 months, and the other is in the minority and powerless to stop it.

I don't think a lot of these people understand what it means for them to be a public servant. This is not a job where you put your interests first. You are quite literally a servant to your constituents, and your entire purpose during your term is to serve their wishes, to carry out the will of the people. The amount of people that will get elected into a role like that, then be shocked when the people that elected them ask them to do things for them is baffling to me.

I mean they literally spend their entire term in office listening to lobbyists instead of constituents so it's not too hard to think they don't really care...

I mean, on the one hand, this is the nut of why the Senate as an establishment is fucked. You have one guy who is supposed to represent the views of upwards of 38 million people (or, even we're being a bit cynical, 9M partisan voters). Obviously, he won't do that. Arguably, this is an impossible task.

Then, on the other hand, it really depends on which Senator and which constituent we're talking about. Because I'm old enough to remember "Town Hall" events in 2010 and 2016 that had very obvious partisan plants looking to effectively heckle a Congressman in order to "Go Viral" with a clipped and edited response. This was part and parcel with the "Project Veritas" strategy of disinformation and race-baiting.

But then you have a guy like Cochran who has been a piece of shit his entire career (arguably his whole life). A man who had been infesting the Mississippi Senate since 1978, as a Nixonian Southern Strategy candidate. A guy who ranked among sleazeballs like Strom Thurmond, Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee, Rick Scott, and Joe Manchin as a bigot, parasite, and hack. For his replacement, Roger Wicker, to be even more openly reviled by his constituency really says something about the abysmal state of Mississippi politics.

Abolish the Senate, expand the House. By the People, for the People.

They literally laughed with him at "Get a Life". Hahaha he ignores when we ask him what he's doing, or for him to help us or defend us. Hahaha it's so funny, that's what we voted him in for, for him to ignore us.

They're trying to have a life but you and your buddies are trying to make it as difficult as humanly possible.

The appropriate response from constituents to the senator saying this is “get a real job you fucking asshole”

And to be clear I'm saying their end goal is to do an Iraq and Fallujah on US cities.

On one hand its infuriating to hear but also anyone who's done any politics will know that the legitimately crazy people will send hundreds of bat shit crazy messages when they are off their meds. Even at a city council level there is some legit crazy stuff you have to deal with.

If God was real a comically large anvil would have just blessed this fuckers head.

He represents the voice of his voters which citizens united spelled out. One dollar. One vote.
