Meh. He didn't harm anything. He just broke the rule of, "keep off the memorial."
Basically, a non-event. Why is this news?

  That's not the point. The point is nothing at all actually happened.
  It's the monument equivalent of shouting, "you're ugly" at someone. Disrespectful, sure, but newsworthy? No.

  I quit smoking over a decade ago, but if I had the opportunity to light a cigarette from the Olympic torch...I'd take it. Probably also use that cigarette to light the pilot lights on my water heater and then all my showers would be heated by the Olympic flame (technically speaking).
That's honestly the most French thing I've heard in a while. Not because of the war memorial but because of the cigarette

There's a genocide going on, we have thousands upon thousands of homeless people, the world is heading to a climate catastrophy, but let's be outraged by someone lightning a cigarette with the flame of a war memorial.
People dying of hunger because of politics, capitalism and violence, it's none of our business. But that man lighting his cigarette, what a fucking outrage!
