I once parked a Cessna in my parents’ cramped driveway and sent them the pic. Felt good.
That's great
Some Indian scammer sent me a picture like this with no context and I was so confused, but I guess now it makes sense. Also it wasn't my house, I don't know where it was, but it was definitely not where I lived so I'm not sure what that was supposed to achieve.
Now do the needful and delete your most important files from your computer
I haven’t played a Microsoft Flight Simulator game in a really long time, so excuse me if this is a dumb question. Does the game use actual map data? Does it have entire countries?! That’s kind of wild and makes me want to check the new one out on GamePass.
I also want to crash into my own house.
FS2020 does. It uses bing maps satellite imagery, interprets the map and procrdurally generates buildings. It's impressive, but up close the buildings look generic and rarely accurate. Google Earth looks better.
However they do have hand made maps of big cities, these are very realistic.
People can use StreetComplete and other software to enhance existing data (e.g. building heights/floors) and overall improve the underlying OpenStreetMap data that it (in part) uses.
My hometown which is tiny is accurately represented in Microsoft flight simulator, I have no idea who took the effort to do that.
The only reason I can think of is that due to some stupid local political reasons it has a major train station despite being a small town, so perhaps they just modelled everything with extensive public infrastructure.
Some of the data it uses is based on OpenStreetMap. There was a viral story about a 212-story building due to a typo.
Amateurs, I doubt there's a place I haven't crashed into yet
It feels like a good amount of effort. I appreciate that.
Flight Gear flight simulator way better :)
I’ve done that to my wife (and really myself).
I just love crashing into real stuff.
I used to crash into the Sears (now Willis) Tower and other tall buildings across the USA in FS99. It became a very not cool thing to do for a few years. No idea why…
The key is to send it too then when they're not at home.
For me it was always crashing into my own house in MS Flight Sim
Do that with some specific politicians.
New? I was doing that in the early 2000s
I thought they nerfed crashes entirely with the new flight sim
Worst way to say "I know where you live."
did the pilot eject? not sure how that works in commercial airplanes
You can't eject from commercial jetliners. You can't even jump out of most of them.
There used to be some that had a backwards facing door with stairs you could jump out of. Famously, D. B. Cooper did that. But afterwards, most of these doors were secured so that they could not open during flight to prevent future hijackers from doing what D. B. Cooper did.
My hero.
Sigh.
Well it’s a Boeing so not too surprising
It's fine, they are meant to bounce,
remember the boeing shuttlecraft was haunted by mysterious noises.
