This is why I always wear a big empty backpack, ain't no way I'm walking into a boss fight situation with full inventory preventing me to pick up spare health potions or the occasional wheel of cheese.

If there is no ammo too then it's just mid-stage.

Don't pick it up if you're only down a few HP: save it for later when you can use the full ability.
As soon as the fight begins:
Batman just respects authority, okay.
